Kinko's Fifth-Annual Award Recognizes Green Branches

DALLAS, April 23 -- Kinko's, an operating company of FedEx Corp., today announced the winners of its 2003 U.S. Environmental Branch of the Year competition. Top finishers include: 1st Place - Moscow, Idaho; 2nd Place - College Park, Maryland, University; and 3rd Place - Indianapolis, Indiana, Broad Ripple. The fifth-annual award recognizes superior performance in conserving energy, using recycled materials, eliminating waste, recycling waste streams, and participating in community-based environmental programs. "Through this annual competition, Kinko's is proud to honor the best of the best in reducing our environmental impact," said Gary Kusin, president and chief executive officer of Kinko's. "Congratulations to each team member at the winning locations. They represent shining examples of Kinko's core values, which include focusing on the environment and our communities." Winning Ways The first-place Moscow, Idaho Kinko's is a top user of 100-percent post- consumer recycled paper and purchases 40 percent of its energy needs through renewable energy sources. The branch also sponsors an expanded recycling program that includes paper, newspaper, cardboard, telephone books, aluminum, and plastic. Team members at the location were also actively involved throughout the year in community environmental efforts, including a clean-up of the stream next to the branch and an Arbor Day seedling giveaway. The College Park, Maryland, University Kinko's location took second place thanks to active recycling programs and a high level of community involvement. Community programs include donating discontinued paper stocks to area schools, distributing information to incoming students at the University of Maryland, and supporting student organizations in their education efforts. The third-place Indianapolis, Indiana, Broad Ripple Kinko's was recognized for its recycling programs, green power purchases, sales of 100-percent post- consumer recycled paper, and community involvement. The branch provides extensive in-kind support for the state of Indiana's annual Earth Day celebration. Kinko's and the Environment Kinko's history includes a long-standing dedication to protecting the environment.
