Exclusive ERC data set from Dr. Joe Webb includes U.S. printing shipments data, selected Canadian data

WhatTheyThink.com - WhatTheyThink today announced new additions to its Economics and Research Center (ERC). The Center now includes access for Premium Members to an Industry Snapshot, a downloadable spreadsheet with the U.S. printing industry shipments latest data and more than a decade of history, and more.

“WhatTheyThink has become the go-to source for printing industry news and analysis,” said Eric Vessels, WhatTheyThink’s President. “And we are looking to add great value to the information that is already exclusively available to our Premium Members.  The historical industry data sets prepared by our own Dr. Joe Webb are a major step in that direction, providing easy access to government and proprietary data in one convenient location.  Log on to access this new data and stay tuned for more!”

New data sets now available include:

- U.S. commercial printing shipments data as published by the U.S. Department of Commerce in a downloadable spreadsheet that includes monthly data beginning in 2003

  • Data are both inflation-adjusted and in current dollars
  • A chart showing each year's data by month shows historical changes in industry seasonality

- Canadian printing shipments data from Statistics Canada in current dollars and also adjusted to the Canada Consumer Price Index

  • Additional data include the data adjusted by U.S. exchange-rates and exchange-rate inflation-adjusted data series

“We have been tracking more than 700 data series for many years,” Dr. Webb explains. “The shipments data being made available to WhatTheyThink Premium Members is a subset of that work that we believe owners and managers of printing businesses, as well as suppliers to the industry, will find extremely valuable as they work through their own business planning processes. Over the next few weeks, additional data sets will be made available to Premium Members as we continue to build this valuable resource.”
