Goss International will highlight the unique advantages of its web offset technology for commercial, newspaper and packaging applications at GRAPH EXPO 2014 in Chicago (Booth #1257, McCormick Place South) from September 28 - October 1.

The company will place particular emphasis on its unique Goss Sundaytechnology for commercial applications, the Goss Sunday Vpak press for cost-effective short-run packaging applications, and the Goss Magnum Compact press for short- to medium-run book, newspaper and semi-commercial applications.

Recent American projects will form a key role in Goss’ focus at GRAPH EXPO. “We have some noteworthy recent assignments that support our technology leadership message,” says D’Angelo. “The Sunday Vpak press system is now successfully installed and proving its compelling value proposition in the U.S. for both flexible packaging and folding carton applications. In addition to these customer installations, we have also opened our first ever Packaging Technology Center as a center of excellence dedicated to research, testing and demonstrations with our customers, partners and industry suppliers.”

Recently announced as a recipient of a 2014 InterTech Technology Award, the Sunday Vpak press system features quick-change sleeve technology, delivering outstanding quality and fast job changeovers for board and film substrates. It is available in web widths of 20.5 inches (520 mm) up to 75 inches (1905 mm) and runs at speeds up to 1500 feet per minute (7.6 meters/second). Finishing and other printing processes, including flexo, gravure and digital stations, can also be added to customize inline production.

On the newspaper side, Goss also has groundbreaking projects underway in the USA. America’s first triple-wide Uniliner installation is now nearing completion for the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette, while Staten Island’s Advance Publications is currently receiving delivery of the first Goss Magnum Compact press into its low-height (7 feet, 2 inches / 2.2 meters) facility

The Magnum Compact press has been announced as one the official GRAPH EXPO Must See ‘Ems for its unique high-automation design, enabling book, newspaper and commercial print runs as low as 500 copies.

“The new Goss Magnum Compact press is the world’s first 2x1 press with automatic plate changing,” comments Graham Trevett, vice president of sales, Goss Americas. “We have addressed the demands of our customers for an automated, cost-effective press that will support multi-product business models and ultra-short, as well as traditional, run lengths for newspaper, book and semi-commercial production.”

For high-quality commercial printing, large and small printers continue to choose Goss Sunday press models. The trademark gapless blanket technology of Sunday presses eliminates the vibrations and the associated print defects such as bump streaking, doubling and web flutter, enabling premium-quality printing at higher speeds and on wider webs.

Goss has maintained consistent leadership position in the U.S. commercial web market with Sunday press models, frequently now featuring hybrid inkjet configurations, for high-quality publications, catalogs, retail inserts, direct mail and non-stop job and edition changes using Goss Automatic Transfer (AT) technology.

According to Trevett, one project of particular note recently was at Creps United Publications, where production had been devastated by a fire: “Creps decided to turn this unfortunate event into a positive for the company by installing three new Goss Sunday insert presses, which have completely revitalized their entire production capabilities and efficiencies. It was a proud moment for all concerned to see this project come to full fruition.”
