New standards to transform color management best practices - promise new opportunities in proofing and press matching with brightened stocks

Alexandria, Virginia – The new M1 measurement standards defined by ISO and CGATS open the door to a new way of measuring. Previously, color management did not work well with optically brightened substrates. M1 changes all that and offers the promise of proofing and press matching with brightened stocks. IDEAlliance® is hosting a 2-part in-depth online training event to explain how M1 is poised to change everything we do in color management and how print service providers will benefit from this new set of standards.

Instructor of the 2-part series, Ron Ellis, of Ron Ellis Consulting, remarked, “In 2013 and 2014, ISO and CGATS introduced a new set of standards and profiles based on M1 measurements. The famous ISO 12647-2 standard was updated using M1 measurements, and the new G7 based CGATS 21 and ISO 15339 are all based on M1 measurement. These important new standards give us more realistic paper colors and aims, as well as the ability to customize based on actual substrate colors.”

Part 1 of the 2-part event, Discover M1: What it is and Why it Matters, will be heldSeptember 4, 2014 from 11:00 AM – 12:30 PM. The 90-minute session will address what are the M standards and which devices and software support M1. Issues around M0 measurements and standards will be addressed, along with the benefits, workflows, profiles, and print standards of M1. The instructor will also address the impact of M1 on a G7 workflow, how to calculate for paper difference, and how to address reference print conditions in Adobe Creative Cloud.

Part 2, The M1 Workflow: How it All Works, will be held September 5, 2014 from 11:00 AM – 12:30 PM. In this session, attendees will discover how new measurement methods give us the promise of color managing optically brightened substrates and proofing stocks. They’ll discover how the path to using M1 involves new software, measuring instruments, and procedures, and how to put the pieces together in a productive workflow. Attendees will also have to time to get their personal technical and workflow questions answered.
