Southwest Precision Printers to Be Honored with a Prestigious First Place 'Benny'

Press release from the issuing company

Southwest Precision Printers to be honored with a first place Benny award at the 2014 Premier Print Awards. This is the second Benny for the Houston based printing company.

Houston, Texas - Southwest Precision Printers (SWP) of Houston, was recently notified that it will be awarded the Benny, the highest honor at the 2014 Premier Print Awards for their entry, LSI Robway.

The Premier Print Awards, the graphic arts industry’s largest and most prestigious worldwide printing competition recognizes outstanding achievement in print production. SWP received their “Benny” in the Brochures and Broadsides, Large category for their entry, the LSI Robway brochure.

The Premier Print Awards are the printing industry’s oldest and largest worldwide graphic arts competition, hosted by Printing Industries of America. In its 65th year, the annual contest recognizes those responsible for the creation and production of superior print communications. The event promotes excellence in print communications and rewards companies and individuals who produce the very best in print media.

This year, thousands of entries were received from printing and graphic arts firms from around the world, and judges awarded the Benny to the top entry in each category. “We are absolutely thrilled about winning the Benny this year,” said Tim Tully, owner of SWP. “Our employees are very dedicated to our clients, giving each project the same high attention and care. I couldn’t be happier about being recognized for all of our hard work, especially since it comes from among our peers. It’s an honor to be selected by the industry as a company that produces award-winning print.”

Michael Makin, president and CEO of Printing industries of America, agrees. “The Benny winners represent the best our industry has to offer. This year’s entries were outstanding. There were entries from companies in 14 countries. Despite the fierce competition, SWP, through hard work and dedicated craftsmanship, produced a piece worthy of the Benny.”

This marks the second time in the 39-year history of SWP to win the coveted Benny award. “Winning a Benny in printing is like winning an Oscar for acting,” said Rick Nussle, VP of Sales at SWP. “It is a very hard goal to achieve, it is the highest level of competition on both the national and international stage. The fact that we have been able to do this twice in 4 years is simply incredible and it speaks volumes about the quality of work that we produce here on a daily basis.”

The company has obviously come a long way from its humble beginnings in 1975, when Mr. Tully opened his printing business in Bellaire, Texas. In the early years, he stripped film by night while making sales calls by day. His wife, Barkla, would handle the accounting and administrative duties after working full days at another job. Fast-forward to 2014 and SWP has become the largest family owned commercial printer in Houston, with 23 sales representatives offering not only printing services, but innovative business solutions as well. Over the past several years SWP has evolved from offering only offset and digital printing to offering a multitude of services such as mailing, fulfillment, kit assembly, warehousing, large format, etc. Whatever issues its clients are facing, SWP works to find solutions, even adding services to accommodate its clients needs.

“SWP has become a true solutions provider for our clients,” said Mr. Tully. “Our sales team has become very astute in recognizing whatever pain our clients are having, and then figuring out how SWP can ease that pain. The key is thinking outside the box. It’s amazing how many companies are out there right now dealing with problems that we can help them solve. In many cases, we not only ease their pain, but we end up saving the company money by finding cost effective solutions.”

High tech services, such as Print-On-Demand capabilities, give companies with multiple locations their own internet-driven storefronts, which enable the organization to benefit from one centralized solution. Companies who utilize such services perform more efficiently and cost effectively. The ability to offer services like this sets SWP apart from its competition. SWP now boasts an impressive client roster, which includes some of the nation’s biggest Fortune 500 companies, as well as many smaller local companies. The ability to service any client, no matter how big or how small makes SWP a flexible and versatile provider.

SWP will receive their Benny at The Premier Print Gala, which honors all the companies that have the top awards conferred upon them. The 2014 Gala will be held on September 28th in Chicago, IL.
