MHI-PPM Receives Order for Two "DIAMONDSPIRIT" Newspaper Offset Presses from IWATE NIPPO

Press release from the issuing company

Tokyo - Mitsubishi Heavy Industries Printing & Packaging Machinery, Ltd. (MHI-PPM), a group company of Mitsubishi Heavy Industries, Ltd. (MHI) based in Mihara in Hiroshima, has received an order for two Mitsubishi 4 x 1 "DIAMONDSPIRIT" newspaper offset presses from IWATE NIPPO CO, LTD., a newspaper company with head office in Iwate, northern part of Japan. This is the first case that MHI-PPM provided a consulting service for a new newspaper printing plant. The new presses are scheduled for delivery in the early summer in 2016.

Each DIAMONDSPIRIT press for IWATE NIPPO CO, LTD. can produce maximum 40 page newspaper with 24 color pages at 80,000 copies per hour. The shaftless drive system, which controls the press by electrically synchronizing all the drive motors without mechanical shafts, enables shorter make-ready time. The DIAMONDSPIRIT also incorporates many newly developed improvements in terms of reducing energy consumption, paper waste, and noise, as well as cutting plate costs in half, resulting in lower running costs and a more pleasant operating environment.

IWATE NIPPO CO, LTD., founded in 1876, has become widely popular among local residents with its 210,000 daily circulation and enjoys the No. 1 market share of all newspapers sold within the prefecture.

Prior to the press order, MHI-PPM received the order of the consulting service from IWATE NIPPO Co, Ltd. Based on the recent start-up experiences of new newspaper printing plants, MHI-PPM gave advices about the production equipment, printing materials, and energy supply under cold district. As IWATE NIPPO Co, LTD. highly evaluated the consulting service provided by MHI-PPM and the DIAMONDSPIRIT's solid track record of more than 30 press installations with proven operations, IWATE NIPPO CO, LTD. decided to opt the DIAMONDSPIRIT for the new plant.

With this latest order, MHI-PPM further focuses on solution-providing marketing for not only the newspaper presses but also other equipment for newspaper production to expand in both the domestic and the global markets by responding to diversified customer needs for newspaper production
