MBM Packaging Labs Select New Colter & Peterson Paper Cutter

Press release from the issuing company

Paterson, NJ – MBM Packaging Labs in Rogersville, Tennessee believes in a strong commitment to a sound quality system and a solid knowledge of the printing industry. A desire to stay ahead of the technological curve and surpassing customer service expectations has driven owners John Metz and Ronnie Carpenter since 1997. Primarily focused on cGMP compliant printing and packaging practices, they specialize in pharmaceutical, medical device and toy industry printing with customers throughout the U.S.

When the pair conducted their 2013 annual review that focused on disaster recovery and system redundancy, the cutting department was the final item on the checklist. A need for a new paper cutter required research and in the end, the arrow pointed in the direction of Colter & Peterson, North America’s premier independent distributor of paper cutters and paper handling equipment.

A new and robust Prism® 30” paper cutter was installed and training completed in one day in late March, with three hours of follow-up by the technician the next day. After two months, the owners are very pleased with the results.

“It was the easiest equipment installation I’ve ever been involved in,” remarked Metz, the company’s CEO. “We worked with a used equipment dealer in Nashville who mentioned Colter & Peterson. After a few weeks of online research, we realized they were the go-to resource with consistent high praise from companies throughout the country.”

“When we initiated the conversation concerning the purchase of a new cutter,” says COO Carpenter, “I was impressed to find a company that conducted business as we do. It is refreshing to actually speak to a live person when you are trying to spend your hard earned money. Bruce Peterson did exactly what he said he would do. It was an extremely smooth process from the inception of the order to the final installation.”

The compact Prism cutter is known for its outstanding reliability and is a great solution for digital and variable data printing. Its state-of-the-art electronics technology includes the time-saving Microcut® computer control system, which provides the user with an automated capability to store cutting sequences so the back gauge automatically positions itself for each individual cut. It also allows for programs to be uploaded from a network or with a USB device using CIP 3/4 files and no additional hardware of software is needed.

FDA regulations require the use of IFUs for medical device manufacturers, one of the key items of work Metz says involves the new Prism cutter.

“The cutter is performing beyond our expectations. From pharmaceutical and medical device IFUs to labels and wide format printed media, the cutter has handled every item we have thrown at it. The digital display for blade changes and basic maintenance has made drafting SOPs a breeze. We do a lot of small web work with our digital presses and all of it was run through an older 30-1/2” POLAR press. We hardly use that machine now because the Prism is user-friendly and easy to run. That was a huge selling feature to our cutting staff.”
