Hainburg, Germany (April 26, 2004) -- In response to demands for affordable, high-performance digital workflow, CGS Publishing Technologies International will be enhancing its hotfolder-based workflow system, ORIS Works. At Drupa, the company will demonstrate new web capabilities, an improved job management database, and an automated UCR/GCR ink reduction and control process. “Both publishers and printers are struggling – economically as well as technologically,” said Trevor Haworth, CGS’ head of sales and marketing. “They need a workflow system that is easy to use, appropriate to their needs and, above all, affordable. ORIS Works is all of those things. It’s a complete toolbox for the graphic arts industry, but companies need only buy the tools they really need.” In Düsseldorf, CGS will demonstrate the new Web interface to ORIS Works, which will allow remote configuration and control of the workflow process. In addition, an enhanced job management database, using SQL, will also be shown, allowing users to plan and track jobs, and control tasks such as local or remote proofing, throughout the production process. In addition, CGS will show a new module for automatically reducing ink usage and controlling neutral gray elements, using under color removal (UCR) and gray component replacement (GCR) – without adversely affecting black elements such as type. This module is available to ORIS Works Users who also have ORIS Color Tuner. ORIS Works has been used by a wide variety of companies, from publishers and print buyers to printers. For publishers, the system can automatically receive, check and process incoming customer files, in any major digital file type, and convert jobs to multiple print-ready formats, including TIFF/IT, DCS, PDF/X, and many more. Printers can also use ORIS Works as a complete front end for CTP devices or digital presses, at a fraction of the cost of workflow systems from hardware vendors.
