BDT Installs First B1 Feeder for Digital Presses and Post Press Applications

Press release from the issuing company

Rottweil/Germany - BDT Media Automation GmbH, the market leader for B2 format feeders in digital printing, announces the first installation of the new B1 Deep Pile Feeder TPF-750 LT to a leading global print service provider. This new product expands the line of BDT Tornado based feeders and media handling products to include feeding of sizes up to B1, with the option to increase further to even 3B format. In response to the digital printing market demand for a wider format range, the brand new TPF-750 LT addresses high speed digital sheet-fed press and post press applications and enables reliable feeding of the largest media range available in the market today.

The TPF-750 LT incorporates the proprietary BDT Tornado Technology which enables levels of media handling automation not possible with other technologies. The TPF-750 LT can feed media in sizes from A5 up to 3B (200 x 178mm / 7.87 x 7.01 inches up to 750 x 1020mm / 29.53 x 40.16 inches), and media weights ranging from office paper to packaging cardboard material. Furthermore the patented Tornado Sideblower Technology within the TPF-750 LT readily manages exotic materials such as spot varnished prints, synthetics, foam compounds, light porous filter types, hot melt coated or UV-coated print-outs, embossed card stocks and plastic foils.

“We are extremely pleased with the performance of the TPF-750 LT and feel it will be a strong addition to our product offering”, said Ralf Hipp, Vice President of the Print Media Handling Business Unit at BDT. “This feeder addresses the widest range of media of any feeder available in the print market today, while at the same time simplifying feeder operation due to the lack of mechanical or vacuum adjustments necessary by the operator.”

The TPF-750 LT joins a growing family of high performance BDT feeders including the TPF-550 LT feeder and the multi-input feeders of the HP Indigo 10 000 and the HP Indigo 30 000. These latter feeders were developed by BDT for HP as part of our OEM engineering services program, and were fully developed, designed and manufactured by BDT. The HP Indigo 10 000/30 000 include the only fully automatic B2 pallet feeders in the market.

Digital and personalized printing demands fast job changes, and quick changeover time. Any adjustments or manual user interventions eat into profits. Therefore, the automation of the feeding process is a key factor where the BDT Tornado Technology adds value. High reliability and robustness lead to a major reduction of downtime, less user intervention and thus less labor costs combined with highest average throughput and lowest waste production (defective products) due to no markings and no fibre deformation. This is becoming more and more important in emerging Ink Jet driven Digital Applications.

The overall result is a breakthrough machine availability and workflow productivity virtually eliminating bottleneck problems and increasing productivity of digital print production and post press lines.
