X-Rite ColorTRUE Aware SDK Is Now Available For Mobile App Developers to Include Color Management

Press release from the issuing company

CamRanger first to adapt ColorTRUE Aware capabilities

Grand Rapids, Michigan - X-Rite, Incorporated, the world leader in color management, measurement and communication technologies, today announced the release of ColorTRUE™ Aware SDK (Software Developers Kit) for Apple iOS and Google Android platforms. ColorTRUE Aware SDK provides mobile app developers the ability to deliver accurate color to their app utilizing the profile created with the X-Rite ColorTRUE app, as well as the included image transformation tools.

Unlike laptop or desktop operating systems, iOS and Android operating systems do not have system wide color management capabilities. This means each app must apply color profiles independently. X-Rite now offers a free Software Developers Kit (SDK) that will allow 3rd party app developers access to the custom profile created in the ColorTRUE app, enabling them to seamlessly deliver color management within their own app(s). The 3rd party app must be promoted as ‘ColorTRUE Aware’ so all ColorTRUE users can quickly identify apps that are color managed whenever they see the ColorTRUE Aware logo.

Steve Rankin, Product Manager, at X-Rite, said “We are very excited to announce our first ColorTRUE Aware Partner is CamRanger, with an anticipated end of April release. CamRanger is a great wireless tethering solution that allows photographers to shoot directly to their mobile device – and now their users will be able to view their images color accurately.”

ColorTRUE SDK Components
The ColorTRUE Aware SDK is for both iOS and Android platforms. It includes the retrieval of the display profile, the CMM for color transformations, image processing features including white point selection, ambient light and display brightness compensation and print simulation for soft proofing. The SDK includes sample code, documentation and everything  needed to immediately implement color management in an app.  To learn more and request the SDK, visitxritephoto.com/colortrueSDK.

Steve Rankin adds, “With ColorTRUE and the ColorTRUE Aware partner program, X-Rite now offers the missing color management components on iOS and Android platforms. Our goal is to enable app developers and help create an eco-system of color managed apps. We encourage all app developers, where color is important to their users, to contact us and learn more about our ColorTRUE Aware partner program.”
