University of Rochester Names Xerox as Preferred Office Technology, Services Provider

Press release from the issuing company

ROCHESTER, N.Y.--March 30, 2004-- Xerox Corporation has received a multimillion-dollar, multi-year contract to become the University of Rochester's preferred provider for digital office document systems and network print management services. The University of Rochester signed with Xerox based on its ability to develop a campus-wide, cost-effective document management business strategy that will enhance collaboration and communication among its faculty, staff and students - more than 24,500 strong. "Our decision to work with Xerox reflects the confidence we have in the company's ability to understand the individual components of our institution and provide an array of technological solutions that will meet the university's goals," said Philip Profeta, corporate director of purchasing, University of Rochester. "We believe that Xerox will help our staff and internal departments to work together more productively." Under the preferred provider agreement, the university can consolidate existing third-party equipment such as stand-alone printers, copiers and scanners and utilize Xerox's networked digital multifunction products. These products perform multiple tasks such as print, copy, fax, scan and scan-to-email simultaneously without interruption and can reduce overall document management costs, streamline work processes and improve employee collaboration. Additionally, Xerox's consulting services are helping the university better manage the high volume of documents that support academic programs, staff functions and related organizations. Xerox's Six Sigma-based Office Document Assessment, which analyzes daily work habits and office settings, was conducted within selected areas of the university's teaching hospital, Strong Memorial Hospital. Based on the assessment findings, Xerox is transitioning the hospital's traditional paper-intensive environment to a more cost-effective, digital document management system. "Selecting Xerox as a preferred provider speaks to the value of developing relationships built on trust and accountability," said Michael MacDonald, president, North American Solutions Group, Xerox. "Xerox is committed - through our people, products and services - to help the university maintain its leadership role in higher education." The University of Rochester is also using Xerox's Student Access Management solution within its main library and campus computer labs, which monitors print usage and lowers printing costs. The solution, a combination of software and services, provides network access to Xerox printers via a student ID card with a designated print allotment.
