4c, the Austrian design and print publication, has announced the results of an online survey of readers to determine the print industry CEO that "shaped the industry most" during 2013.

Manroland Sheetfed's Rafael Penuela polled 40.8% of the vote to see off Manroland Web Systems' Eckhard Hoerner-Marass with 35.7%. Klaus Bolza-Schuenemann of KBA and Heidelberg's Gerold Linzbach polled 15.3% and 8.1% respectively.

Penuela has been leading the press builder in a different direction since the business was rescued from insolvency two years ago this month. With no major game changers in press technology in recent years combining with a near 70% drop in new press orders across the industry, courtesy of the financial crisis, Penuela has chosen to concentrate on his existing users, rather than chasing market share. His strategy looks to be paying off, the company posted a small profit in 2013.

Since February 2012 Manroland Sheetfed GmbH has delivered over 200 presses and is maintaining research and development, with their next generation of presses due to be field trialed in 2015. Expect to see the next generation ROLAND 700 at DRUPA 2016.
