BOSS LOGO invests in an Esko Kongsberg digital cutting machine for venture into large format printing

Press release from the issuing company

Miamisburg, OH - BOSS LOGO Print & Graphics, a leading Canadian printer for the wholesale trade, is poised to support the expansion of its capabilities and revenue stream with the recent installation of the Kongsberg XP automated digital cutting table. Established in 1995, BOSS LOGO provides its print broker, ad agency, photographer, and graphic designer clients a comprehensive solution for all their printing needs. With its Heidelberg XL 105 printing presses, the company is able to print large runs that are supported by complete in-house finishing – folding, die cutting, gluing, booklet making, laminating, and coating. Along with its new flatbed digital printer, the additions give the Markham, Ontario based company solid entry into the sign and display and packaging markets. The company has also licensed a new web-to-print system. Promoting these capabilities, BOSS LOGO has created a new marketing slogan, offering customers to ‘BUILD YOUR OWN PRINT EMPIRE’, offering its printing services and technology.

“We wanted to jump completely into sign and display--not just make a little splash,” acknowledges Kapil Sunak, president of BOSS LOGO. “We purchased a very large digital flatbed printer and quickly invested in the Kongsberg XP cutting table to ensure we were able to finish our jobs effectively.

The decision to purchase the Kongsberg table was an easy one. “The Kongsberg table has a great reputation,” says Sunak. “It also integrates very easily with advanced Esko software.” The Kongsberg XP offers an exceptional level of productivity and throughput. It was made especially for handling the combination of corrugated board and other rigid or roll materials used in POP products and product displays. With the Kongsberg XP cutting table, printers can run jobs from a single unit to full scale production with up to a 1,000 units a day. The table has an automatic sheet feeder and take-up system. BOSS LOGO has also invested in the roll sheet feeder option that unwinds the roll on top of the Kongsberg table’s bed.

BOSS LOGO intends on taking full advantage of Kongsberg’s ability to cut nearly anything. “We will cut everything we can on it: wood, metal, plastic, corrugated and solid boards, folding cartons—even Coroplast,” remarks Sunak. “As runs get larger, we can produce short runs on the digital press and Kongsberg table and, ultimately, very large runs on our offset press and die-cutting equipment. We are now equipped to efficiently take on prototypes to 500-sheet short runs to really large runs on our offset press.”

Both i-cut Layout and ArtiosCAD enhance the potential of the Kongsberg cutting table. i-cut Layout, for example, always comes up with the most efficient layout, ensuring optimum sheet use for ganging. By including a barcode when the sheet is printed, the Kongsberg table is able to refer to the cutting file that corresponds to the print file. ArtiosCAD gives BOSS LOGO the structural design capability necessary for efficiently creating packaging—and 3D sign and displays. “With ArtiosCAD we will be able to produce one-offs for packaging,” says Sunak.
