Cannock based Mercian Labels has won the ‘Digital Label Printer of the Year 2013′ award in recognition of its achievements in the growing digital packaging marketplace. 

The highly sought after Digital Printer Awards were presented by John Parrot MBE at a packed celebration ceremony at the Mariott hotel at Grosvenor Square, London.  Mercian’s winning entry was a suite of high quality shelf edge labels for the “Wessex Mill” range of premium flour products.

“Winning this award is fantastic news for us at Mercian Labels.” explained Dr Adrian Steele, Managing Director of Mercian Labels.  ”The client has been a customer of Mercian Labels for over a decade, buying a large and increasing range of designs of shelf edge labels for their premium flour products from us manufactured using conventional flexo’ printing. Their business involves milling speciality flours for craft bakers.” 

Steele added ” However, as their market has evolved, they wanted to experiment with more varieties of flour, with lots more SKU colour varieties and in different short run quantities whilst cutting down costs.  By moving from flexo printing to full digital they have been able to grow their business by expanding their product range significantly, cutting out all plate costs, improving quality and reducing lead times.  Their brand has also benefited from increasing the number of innovative colours used in their designs which has to increased shelf edge appeal and brought increased sales.”
