NEW YORK, Nov. 17 -- Bowne & Co., Inc., a global leader in delivering high-value document management solutions, has appointed David J. Shea to the newly created position of Senior Vice President and CEO of Bowne Business Solutions (BBS) and Bowne Enterprise Solutions (BES). Shea formerly served as Senior Vice President for Bowne & Co., Inc., and as President of Bowne Business Solutions since June of 2001. He will assume his new responsibilities immediately. Shea replaces Robert J. Baker, President, Bowne Enterprise Solutions, who previously announced plans to retire in December 2003. "We believe the challenges facing Bowne Enterprise Solutions - which involve helping our clients with the evolution from the traditional offset print and fulfillment model of client communication, to personalized and customized on demand digital print communication - is very analogous to the business process outsourcing model that BBS has successfully employed to become the market leader in providing document management solutions to the legal and investment banking industries," said Robert M. Johnson, Bowne Chairman and Chief Executive Officer. "Dave's knowledge and experience with the financial services sector and his background in technology sales and support during his previous career with IBM, provide him with the ideal background to lead the BES management team as it embarks upon its new strategic plan," said Johnson. Shea joined Bowne in 1996, through an acquisition of Donnelley Enterprise Solutions, Inc. (DESI). There, he served as Vice President and General Manager of the Eastern Region from November 1993. Before that, Shea spent more than 15 years in several management positions with IBM, where he focused on the outsourcing services operation.
