CHICAGO - R. R. Donnelley & Sons Company announced today that it has been named to the 2013/2014 Ocean Tomo 300® Patent Index. The Ocean Tomo 300 Patent Index is a diversified listing of the 300 companies that own the most valuable patent portfolios relative to the book value of the company.

"RR Donnelley's innovation process continues to produce marketable intellectual property and create significant value for our customers," stated Thomas J. Quinlan III, the company's President and CEO. "Our patented and proprietary capabilities in areas such as printed electronics, radio frequency identification tags, mobile barcodes, augmented reality and high speed digital color printing are important components of our integrated communications services offering."

This is the sixth year in which RR Donnelley has been named to the Ocean Tomo 300 Patent Index. The Index provides a meaningful benchmark for the performance of companies in today's intangible asset driven economy.

"As we work to develop innovative technology solutions, we look at emerging needs through the lens of our customers' goals," said Ronnie Sarkar, RR Donnelley's Sr. Vice President of Technology Innovations. "We put our patented technologies to work in a variety of segments from direct response to trans-promo to producing books on demand," commented Sarkar. "Our robust patent pipeline and investment in best-in-class research and development continue to differentiate us in the marketplace."
