Unique Digital Printing Technology Makes Screen USA Media Day a Great Success

Press release from the issuing company

ROLLING MEADOWS, Ill. — Media Day 2013 left no doubt that Screen inkjet technology is a force to be reckoned with in a growing number of production applications. Approximately 30 representatives of the graphics industry trade press joined Screen USA’s digital printing experts and special guest speakers on October 15 at Screen’s corporate headquarters in Rolling Meadows, Ill.

In the 12,000-square-foot Screen Demonstration Center, hands-on printing demonstrations emphasized the high performance and superior quality of Screen’s Truepress family. Three of the newest and most compelling Truepress models were front and center. Attendees had a perfect opportunity to assess the individual strengths of the just-released Truepress Jet L350UV inkjet label press and Truepress Jet W3200UV flatbed inkjet printer. Visitors also got an in-depth (and, for some, first) look at the Truepress JetSX B2 sheetfed inkjet press with carton printing capabilities.

Reliable entry into digital label printing
The Truepress Jet L350UV affords label printers who already use flexographic, screen or gravure machines greater flexibility and productivity. Screen’s inaugural UV inkjet label press is an excellent printing system for trial marketing, versioning and personalization of labels. It boasts printing speeds up to 164 feet per minute (or 173.2 square feet of printed labels per minute) on a 13.7-inch web. The 600 x 600 dpi resolution and minimum droplet size of 3 picoliters provide sharp, well-defined images and text.

Higher quality, lower cost
The Truepress Jet W3200UV meets the highest standards of the point-of-purchase, graphic display and decor markets with a low total cost of ownership. The 62.9 x 125.9-inch-wide flatbed table and newly developed print carriage enable output up to 904 square feet per hour. The micro-droplet printheads with a 14 picoliter drop size deliver 600 dpi resolution with an apparent resolution of 1,000 dpi.

Wide stock range, diverse products
The Truepress JetSX gives printing companies exceptional tools to produce personalized and customized text and images in 1,440 x 1,440 dpi resolution. It features complete variable data and duplex printing on cut sheets up to 20.8 x 29.1 inches. The B2 press can print eight 8 ½ x 11-inch pages in duplex — four pages to a side — ideal for variable data digital output for the commercial market. In addition, the Truepress JetSX handles paper package material, coated board and cardboard up to 23.6 mil in thickness.

State of inkjet technology
Mike Fox, president of Screen USA, delivered the official greeting at the event. Fox’s welcome served as a lead-in to the technology demonstrations to come later in the program.

Katsuhiko Aoki, president of Media and Precision Technology Company, the graphic arts equipment business and manufacturing division of Dainippon Screen Mfg. Co., Ltd., was on hand to lend a historical perspective to the proceedings. This year marks the 70th anniversary of the parent company’s founding.

Ron Gilboa, director of InfoTrends’ Functional Printing & Packaging initiatives, offered a detailed summary of new and evolving digital print applications.

Another presentation focused on the current pace of PDF/VT adoption and integration into variable printing workflows.
