Resolute Forest Products to demonstrate Ecopaque Paper in Canon booth #502

MELVILLE, N.Y. – Canon Solutions America, Inc., a wholly owned subsidiary of Canon U.S.A., Inc., has teamed up with Resolute Forest Productsfor an onsite demonstration live on the showroom floor at PRINT 13, the most expansive exhibition of digital, offset, flexo, and hybrid technologies, products, and services in the Americas, September 8 -12 at McCormick Place South, Chicago.

Canon Solutions America will produce three finished books: “Grimm’s Fairy Tales,” “Frankenstein” and “The Adventures of Sherlock Holmes” on-site at PRINT 13. The books will be printed on Resolute’s Ecopaque paper, part of its Align™ family of high brightness, environmentally responsible mechanical paper that can be used as an alternative to chemical pulp coated and uncoated freesheet in inkjet, offset, and laser printing. Produced on the Océ ColorStream® 3900 printing system, the books will feature premium pigment black inks, along with full-color covers produced on theCanon imagePRESS® C7010VP. Canon Solutions America has also preprinted several rolls of the same books, which will be finished on Standard Horizon’s Smart Binding System live in the Standard booth #1902.

Premium Quality without the Premium Price Tag
Developed to provide today’s marketplace with a more cost effective, environmentally friendly alternative to traditional offset, all the papers in the Align family are derived from a renewable resource and produced in a safe, sustainable and environmentally responsible manner.

Made with 50 percent less wood fiber, Ecopaque has a smaller environmental footprint than traditional offset papers, including some which contain recycled content. Yet it still delivers the quality print service providers (PSPs) have come to expect from traditional freesheet paper. A high yield paper, Ecopaque features higher opacity at a lower basis weight, resulting in significant savings in paper, mailing, and transportation costs.

“Our customers care about the environment more than ever, but still feel pressure to reduce print costs,” said Breen Blaine, vice president, North American paper sales, Resolute Forest Products. “Ecopaque provides a high quality, eco-friendly and budget-friendly alternative for customers in multiple print environments – inkjet, laser, and offset.”

From books, magazines, and maps to transactional documents, annual reports, and direct mail pieces, Ecopaque is the environmentally friendly alternative for most any commercial application.

“Ecopaque is a remarkable step forward for Print Service Providers looking to be more in tune with the environment, while keeping tabs on their costs,” said Francis A. McMahon, vice president, Marketing, Production Print Solutions division, Canon Solutions America. “It delivers the savings they need without sacrificing the quality they have come to expect.”

Partnering for the Environment
With concerns over the environment ever present, Print Service Providers (PSPs) are increasingly looking for solutions to help them reduce their carbon footprint and that of their supply chain. Joint efforts, such as the partnership between Canon Solutions America and Resolute Forest Products, serve to keep them apprised of the wealth of environmentally responsible options available – and what better place to raise awareness than at one of the industry’s biggest trade shows.

“Canon Solutions America is proud to partner with Resolute to shine the spotlight on environmentally friendly solutions,” said McMahon. “Events like PRINT 13 provide the ideal venue in which to introduce PSPs to the increasingly broad array of environmentally friendly options that will enable them to better respond to their customers’ demands.”

For their part, Resolute is pleased to have been chosen by Canon to provide the paper for the on-site demonstration.

“Customers look to Canon Solutions America to advise them on which papers will be successful in their printers,” said Laura Ashley, manager, marketing, Resolute Forest Products. “It’s incredibly meaningful for us to have Canon lend their stamp of approval to our papers.”
