Clearstory Brings Customers’ Stories to Life with HP Indigo Digital Printing Technology

Press release from the issuing company

Company uses HP Indigo 5500 Digital Press and HP Designjet Z6200 Photo Printer to publish personalized photo books

PALO ALTO, Calif. – HP today announced that San Diego-based Clearstory chose HP Indigo digital printing technology to produce highly customized photo books for individuals and businesses.

Clearstory, a minority, women-owned small business and creative digital print publisher, was founded in 2010 to satisfy the unmet need for a single-source provider of personalized photo books. Clearstory aims to meet that need with in-house digital printing, finishing and bookbinding to provide customers high-quality photo books produced in one location, giving it full control over the quality of the final product.

“Many online book developers don’t produce their own books,” said Debara Medina, founder, Clearstory. “Having the HP Indigo 5500 Digital Press in-house is a key differentiator for our business. It gives us huge advantages in quality and more options to offer our customers such as white and transparent ink.”

HP Indigo provides foundation for growth

HP Indigo ElectroInk White and other special effect ink options available to the HP Indigo 5500 Digital Press enable Clearstory to print on a larger variety of specialized substrates, such as transparent, metallic and colored media for a wide range of unique applications. The press also features light cyan and light magenta photo inks as well as spot color capabilities, which help Clearstory achieve realistic skin and sky tones.

“In our search for the right printing technology for Clearstory, we put a huge premium on color consistency, print quality and versatility.” said Medina. “The HP Indigo 5500 Digital Press delivers on these requirements and provides flexibility to readily change designs and produce custom-size books.”

Clearstory’s investment in the HP Indigo 5500 Digital Press provided the basis for the company to include in-house bindery and finishing in its business plan. The new technology allows Clearstory to produce short runs, making them more competitive than companies transitioning into the photo book industry with offset presses.

To complement the HP Indigo 5500 Digital Press, Clearstory uses the HP Designjet Z6200 Photo Printer to produce personalized book covers. The HP Designjet Z6200 Photo Printer provides Clearstory high-quality photo images with short turnaround times, giving Clearstory’s clients timely and beautiful products.

Through HP digital technology, every photo book is customizable, reflecting what is most important to the customer. HP digital technology enables Clearstory to help clients produce customized photo books that tell stories in photos or words with exceptional quality.
