Masterwork USA Post-Press Finishing Technology Earns Coveted Must See ‘Ems at PRINT 13

Press release from the issuing company

Honored for its high-speed carton inspection machine and automated foil stamping/diecutting machine

Masterwork USA, a leading manufacturer of folding carton and packaging equipment headquartered in Charlotte, NC, proudly announces that it has been chosen as a coveted PRINT 13 Must See ‘Ems winner for two of its premier pieces of equipment.  The MK420MINI Q full automatic carton inspection machine and the MK21060STE Duopress foil stamping/die-cutting combination machine with stripping were chosen among 49 winning technologies. Masterwork USA will be exhibiting at PRINT 13 from September 8-12 in Chicago at Booth # 1267.

“We are clearly delighted and honored that the PRINT 13 MUST SEE ’EMS judging panel chose two of our machines as winners,” says Carol Jiang. “The MUST SEE 'EMS product and technology recognition program provides an industry-wide 'roadmap' to the most compelling product introductions on the PRINT 13 show floor. These awards provide valuable guidance to PRINT 13 attendees who are considering the purchase of new equipment. We believe that our post-press equipment is a winning innovation and we welcome PRINT 13 attendees to visit our booth and see why.”

Under the Color Management and Quality Control category, Masterwork’s MK420MINI Q full automatic carton inspection machine was chosen as a winning innovation. The MK 420 MINI Q allows a graphic arts firm to increase production capacity, reduce costs, and carry out 100% on-line inspections throughout 24 hours of uninterrupted operation.  The Mini’s new technology removes the cumbersome human inspection process with its inefficiency and inaccuracy and allows the 420MINI’s high-speed CCD camera to detect the slightest deviations from the standard sample. The 420MINI Q has a highly-adjustable patented light source that can make meticulous and accurate adjustments according to the different printing processes, such as laser or holographic foil stamping. This light source, found only on MK machines, can filter the reflective light on the sheets to make the image clear and give the best detection results. The MK 420MINI offers a maximum running speed of 75,000 sheets/hour. It will take a maximum sheet size of 420mmx350mm and a minimum sheet size of 70mmx70mm.

Under the Postpress and In-line finishing category, Masterwork’s MK21060STE Duopress foil stamping / die-cutting combination machine with stripping was chosen. For those seeking to create high-quality packaging, the Duopress provides the solution. It is the world’s first and only double-station machine designed with a one-pass integrated system combining the platen through the embossing and foil stamping onto the die cutting and stripping functions. The two-platen system boasts a maximum output speed of 6,000 sheets per hour, but because multiple passes with two platens run at one time, users realize an output of 12,000 sheets per hour. Its optimized pressure adjustment provides a better foil stamping result. Its patented design of the adjusting mechanism ensures that the two units have high register accuracy. A separate power-driven waste conveyor belt is capable of removing waste at a high speed.

The 49 winning technologies were selected from a record number of entries submitted by a record number of individual companies. The four criteria guiding the selection process are innovation ( the entry appears to feature one or more significant innovations that could potentially reshape this category); ease of use (the product should provide enhanced ease-of-use compared to what is considered “typical” for this category); throughput (the product should provide significantly improved throughput compared to other competitors in the same class/price range); and competitive advantage (print shops that implement this product will likely enjoy a significant business advantage compared to other print providers in their sales region). MUST SEE 'EMS products will be identified on the PRINT 13 show floor with descriptive placards.
