Product security methods working for Packaging Graphics customers

Press release from the issuing company

Pawtucket, RI – Companies spend billions to introduce new products every year.  Competition is fierce in the consumer marketplace, and having competitors find key information about a new product before its unveiling can be potentially devastating to projected sales.  That’s why Packaging Graphics (www.packgraph.com) created a secure printing process that ensures complete client confidence from the time they begin work on a product launch through delivery.

Since starting the program in 2009, Packaging Graphics has not experienced a security issue with a new product launch.  Specializing in the production of folding carton packaging, blister cards and thermoforming, some of their most visible work involves the highly competitive home and personal care product markets.

Packaging Graphics began offering their security service after installing a manroland R700 Ultima press.  A custom built 17-unit, 40-inch sheetfed press equipped with in-line foiler, it has multiple coating units and the console is integrated into the pre-press stage to reduce make-ready times.  Measuring a massive 127 feet, the press served as a catalyst for the printer to build a secure area within its 300,000 square-foot facility.

“We have a dedicated area that not only is safe and secure, but is a completely closed-off work center.  Once we begin pre-press, a client knows that we can handle the review process, printing and finishing all without ever having to leave the room,” explained Pat Pagani, President of Packaging Graphics, a division of The MATLET Group.

The secure section is ringed by a series of heavy canvas curtains.  Greg Iannuccillo, Vice President of Sales, says the area was designed so no one but the client and dedicated employees assigned to the specific project can enter the room.

“We implemented a regimented routine that has worked very well.  Our employees can only access the room using a fingerprint match, and no product can be taken out of the room.  The pre-press area also has frosted windows to restrict viewing in case anyone in the building is walking past.  We’ve also taken steps to recycle the plates used once we have completed printing.”

Iannuccillo indicated Packaging Graphics clients have the option to extend security to include transportation and delivery.

“Once the printing and finishing stages are complete, clients can take advantage of different ways to get the product to market.  Some clients prefer to keep new product launches a secret to the point where store managers and employees don’t see it until the last minute.  For example, we wrap the skids in clear plastic but can do it with black wrap for greater security.  There are other measures we can provide that clients can utilize as well.”
