Miamisburg, OH (USA) – Reprodux has recently installed an Esko Kongsberg XN digital finishing table at their main production office in Toronto.

Established in 1963, Reprodux has been one of Canada's leading reprographers with locations spanning across Southern Ontario. Reprodux offers complete print, copy and document management solutions, from business cards to banners. Reprodux also operates myplanroom.ca, a complete project document solution for the building industry. In February 2013, Reprodux merged operations with Entire Imaging Solutions Inc., specializing in a range of document services, with special emphasis on project collaboration, digital printing, scanning, and archiving for architectural, engineering, manufacturing, and construction firms. This partnership allows Reprodux to offer new and exciting services, such as 3D modeling and rapid prototyping.

The company had a smaller finishing table for a couple of years, which limited the size of the substrates they could put on the table. They also needed a finishing table with a router to handle a wider variety of materials.

“We selected the Kongsberg XN24. It is able to handle larger, 66”x126” sheets of material. Also, the 3kW high power water-cooled milling tool allows it to make larger, longer and deeper cuts,” says John Duke, Manager of Reprodux’ main production office in Toronto. “We also found that it was quicker, more efficient and offered better quality overall.”

The Kongsberg XN24 with i-cut is a highly versatile and productive digital finishing table that can operate in the widest range of applications, from kiss-cutting to heavy-duty milling delivered by the high-power three kilowatt MultiCUT-HP milling spindle. Whether the focus is packaging, signs or displays—or with just about any material from vinyls to boards to wood—the Kongsberg XN is perfect for any job or application. It is available in seven different sizes from 66” x 50” to 87” x 258”.

“We have been working on a lot of different projects with our new Kongsberg table,” adds Duke. “We’re cutting signs and displays, cutting odd jobs that are tough for a guillotine, and kiss cutting for vinyl applications. We’re even taking 12”x18” press sheets, placing multiple-ups and cutting them.”

The powerful milling tool allows Reprodux to cut 6mil Sintra, 1-inch gator board, and aluminum composite panels. They also use the milling tool to cut pieces for 3D modeling. Certain models of buildings are printed on a digital flatbed printer, and the odd shapes are cut with the Kongsberg XN table.

“The Kongsberg XN has replaced some of the jobs we used to cut by hand, making cutting tasks faster and more accurately,” says John Gentle Department manager, wide format print. “We used to manually cut 10-foot panels that were 45 inches wide because we did not have a table to handle them. A job that used to take 4 hours now takes 20 minutes. We also used to cut 30-40 posters by hand in about 2 hours. Now it takes 30 minutes. It’s a huge time saver, and there are no more miscuts.”
