Muller Martini's Presto II Digital Saddle Stitcher shows off its versatility during Print 13

Press release from the issuing company

This Must See ’Em Award Winner easily handles dual production output and multiple product formats

As small- to mid-size print manufacturers worldwide begin to integrate digitally printed product with traditional offset manufacturing methods, they need a singular finishing solution that can address multiple product formats. Muller Martini’s component-driven Presto II Digital Saddle Stitching System more than meets the challenge with its ability to integrate roll or flat sheet printed digital material with conventionally printed signatures.

As it performs live at Muller’s Booth #831 at Print 13, the graphic arts industry can experience up-close what makes the Presto II Digital Saddle Stitching System so unique, including:

  • One-stop production. The Presto II Digital Saddle Stitching System delivers production, labor and workflow efficiencies as manufacturers no longer need independent finishing solutions for each type of formatted product.
  • Versatility. The Presto II Digital Saddle Stitching System can be loaded from piles or pre-printed rolls. It can process single-sheets or also be equipped with folding modules for multipage signature processing. The folding units offer optimum productivity, enabling production with larger sheet sizes and web widths to maximize the digital printing output.
  • Hybrid capability. The Presto II Digital Saddle Stitching System has a unique ability to produce “hybrid” products, i.e., those containing both offset and digitally printed content. It can switch between digital and conventional product types as well as combination products, providing a fusion of digitally printed signatures with a conventional signature feeder along with selective cover feeding.
  • Scalability. The Presto II Digital Saddle Stitching System has been designed as a scalable technology that can support both current offset and future digital production requirements. It can initially be configured as a standard stitcher (e.g., 6+cover) to replace an older asset. In the future, you simply add the plow folder and required infeed module (i.e., pile or roll) to seamlessly process digitally printed materials. Even digital operations that grow from cut-sheet to continuous feed devices only need an incremental investment to change the infeed module from a pile to a roll. That translates into investment protection for printers who want to take a proactive approach to the ever-changing print landscape.

Andy Fetherman, Muller Martini’s Director of Digital Solutions, explained the saddle stitcher’s growing popularity this way: “We’re pleased that the Presto II Digital was awarded a “Must See ‘Em” in the Post-press and In-line Finishing Category at this year’s Print 13. What makes this technology so appealing is its multiple complementary configurations. By adding capabilities, the Presto II Digital has the flexibility to handle both individual feeding of different covers, as well as the feeding of conventionally printed signatures. And, it can even operate in-line for optimal system integration. The Presto II Digital exemplifies Muller’s ‘Investment Protection’ pledge by enabling our customers to enter the digital market when the opportunity is right for them.”

Print 13 takes place September 8-12, 2013 at Chicago’s McCormick Place. Muller Martini’s theme at this year’s show is “Investment Protection. Make Ready for Change.” Muller’s engineers and product specialists will be on hand in Booth #831 to demonstrate manufacturing technology that’s been designed to grow as business grows, through components that add capabilities to accommodate dual production output.
