Gunther Fells of KL Druck Talks About the Spectropad

Press release from the issuing company

Gunther Fells of KL Druck was one of the SpectroPad beta-tester as well as for the according process control solution (DOC). In the meantime the SpectroPad is used on a daily base to check and monitor process stability, repeatability and color fidelity of all digital printers across the different premises at KL Druck.

"In digital printing all data is converted chromatically through a GMG Colorserver and afterwards made ready for print through one of the ONYX, Efi or Caldera RIP" explains Gunther Fells their Workflow.

"Since many years we create profiles using 2 very stable and reliable Barbieri Spectro LFP. But since quite some time I missed a portable, handy spectrophotometer to be connected wireless with our Colorserver. This dream came true thanks to the new Barbieri SpectroPad! Using this handy color measuring device, already in beta test stage, we have been able to check accurately dE color distances directly on the printer which facilitates our daily production.

Even more important is the brand new DOC feature (Digital Output Control). It allows checking and keeping track of process stability, repeatability and color fidelity of all digital printers across the different premises at KL Druck. The effective color space is determined within seconds and shown by means of an easy comprehensible touch-display. For process control the actual color values are compared with saved references (printing mode, media, printer …) and a clear ‘pass / fail ‘ result is shown on the display. This tells the printer operator whether he can continue printing or if he has to interfere into the printing process. The measured data can be sent wireless also to a computer in order to get detailed reports which can be printed too.

This solution allows us to monitor the already high color stability our entire digital printers and to even improve. Thanks to SpectroPad DOC we are able to ensure every day the best printing results for our customers, discover and minimize production variations, and last but not least to predict and counteract production downtimes. This saves costs and ensures satisfied customers"

More than 250 highly qualified employees as well as modern production equipment at KL Druck take over any size of order including all production steps – from high-end scanning, graphics, digital printing, screen printing and offset printing to European-wide shipment and installation.

13 digital printers with different ink type (solvent, latex, or UV) a screen printer and 2 large format offset printers fulfill any kind of customer need.
