MGI Receives Prestigious InterTech Technology Award for JETvarnish 3D Spot UV Coater

Press release from the issuing company

MELBOURNE, Fla – MGI Digital Graphic Technology, the leading manufacturer of digital printing and finishing solutions, announced that the JETvarnish 3D inkjet spot UV coater has received the prestigious 2013 InterTech™ Technology Award from the Printing Industries of America.

“It is a true honor for MGI to be recognized for our ground-breaking technology by the Printing Industries of America,” said Michael Abergel, Executive Vice President and Managing Director, MGI USA. “The response from our customers worldwide to the JETvarnish 3D has been tremendous, and this award emphasizes our commitment to provide true value-added solutions that allow end users to grow their businesses and differentiate themselves.”

Since 1978, the InterTech Technology Awards have showcased important and emerging technologies that are likely to have a significant impact on the graphic communications industry.  An independent panel of judges selected the JETvarnish 3D as one of 11 technologies that were deemed truly innovative and worthy of this highly sought-after award.

“The judges were impressed with the spot UV capabilities of the JETvarnish 3D with its ability to create a distinct product differentiation,” said Dr. Mark Bohan, Vice President, Technology and Research at Printing Industries of America. “The thickness of the coating created a textured print not traditionally available using inkjet, and the solution showed remarkable registration and coating thickness.”

First presented at drupa 2012, MGI’s JETvarnish 3D inkjet spot UV coater provides users the flexibility for two powerful and highly differentiating digital finishing capabilities: traditional spot UV coating and 3D raised effects.

The JETvarnish 3D features spot UV coating at speeds up to 3,000 B2/20 x 29" sheets per hour and 3D raised effects up to 100 microns in thickness.  These beautiful tactile effects allow end users to truly differentiate their brands and add a new dimension of visual appeal to a wide range of projects, such as book covers, brochures, business cards, pocket folders, postcards, packaging, photo books, greeting cards, announcements and more.  The JETvarnish 3D’s 100% digital operation requires no plates, screens or expensive makeready, perfect for runs from one to thousands or more.

A perfect complement to digital or offset presses, other key features of the JETvarnish 3D include sheet sizes up to 20.5x42”, full variable data capabilities, and MGI’s ARC camera system that ensures precise registration to printed pages.

As today’s run lengths continue to shrink and digital print volumes continue to increase, the JETvarnish 3D offers projects and budgets of all sizes the opportunity to receive the premium finishing techniques once reserved for long runs on offset or screen presses.

At PRINT 13, MGI will showcase the JETvarnish 3D in full production in booth 3213 and will present two exciting new options:

  • JETvarnish 3D Twin: a second print engine that can boost 3D effects production speed up to 2,234 12x18” sheets per hour. Users also have the option to double coating thickness in one pass up to 200 microns, opening up new markets such as Braille.
  • iFoil: a 100% digital solution for applying real foil (not simply coating over metallic film) inline on the JETvarnish 3D, resulting in a rich “embossed” look and streamlining value-added finishing processes.
