Wells Printing Installs 5th Sakurai Offset Press in Eight Years

Press release from the issuing company

SCHAUMBURG, IL - Wells Printing Company is a high-end, general commercial printer located in historic Montgomery, Alabama serving a blend of retail, industrial, non-profits as well as advertising and design agency clients from the local region and as far away as Oregon, Texas and New Jersey.

The company got its start 66 years ago in July, 1947 when Arthur and Lubie Wells purchased their first printing press, an 8” x 12’ hand-fed Chandler & Price platen press that shared a stall in the family barn with Daisy the cow.

Today, this prospering third generation company operates out of a state-of-the-art, 200,000 square foot facility in Perimeter Park, not far from its original location, and is managed by the son of the founders, Irvin Wells, its President, who will be 78 years old in July and still works every day, his sons Sidney, Production Manager, Warren, Lettershop/ Distribution and nephew Howard, who handles Operations.

In order to keep current with technology upgrades and to maintain a leadership position in the markets they serve, Wells Printing recently installed their 5th Sakurai offset press, a 23 5/8” x 31 1/8” 580SDC 5-color with coater, purchased from Sakurai’s valued dealer, Innovative Graphic Solutions (formerly Independent Graphic Service), also in Montgomery. The 15,000 IPH 580SDC, which provides up to a 50% productivity boost to half size printers, will be used to print annual reports and a full range of marketing materials for Wells Printing clients.

“Sakurai and IGS have done an outstanding job for us and have demonstrated time and again that they go above what anyone would expect,” said the senior Wells. “Their response is nothing short of outstanding, which is something you don’t see today.”

Wells Printing’s first of five Sakurai presses was a 4-color 466 SIP installed in 2003, followed by a 2-color 272 EPS installed the next year, a 6-color 675 SDC with coater in 2005, a 4-color 466 in 2007, and their newest 5-color 580 SDC with coater at the end of 2012.

‘It is customers like Wells Printing that understand the value of a complete service company like IGS,” said Dennis Spaeth, President, Innovative Graphic Solutions (formerly Independent Graphic Service).  “Their loyalty to IGS and to Sakurai has been valued and is greatly appreciated.”

“When it comes to parts and service, Sakurai and IGS typically respond within one day, which we have come to expect from them,” Irvin Wells added. “Speaking for all of us at Wells, we look forward to continuing our long relationship with them, long after I retire.”
