PIA MidAmerica Screens Linotype: The Film

Press release from the issuing company

Linotype: the Film will be shown at the Palace Theater in Grapevine, TX on the evening of June 20, 2013.  The film is a feature-length documentary about the Linotype type casting machine, referred to as the "Eighth Wonder of the World" by Thomas Edison.  Introduced in the late 19th century, it revolutionized the availability of the printed word and thus society as a whole.

The film tells the charming and emotional story of the people connected to the Linotype and how it impacted the world. The Linotype (pronounced "line-o-type") completely transformed the communication of information similarly to how the internet is now changing communication.

The screening is being presented by Printing & Imaging Association of MidAmerica which has its own roots in the late 19th century when the Linotype was transforming the world of print.  "We have invited Doug Wilson, the film's creator, to be part of the presentation," stated Joe Polanco, the organization's president.  "The film will be of interest to anyone who is fascinated with the printed word, as well as 'hot metal' printing methods which have had a resurgence during the past several years."

The evening begins with a no-host reception at 6:00 p.m. and the film will be introduced by Mr. Wilson at 7:00 p.m.  Tickets can be ordered online at http://conta.cc/12p8gxt or by contacting the Association's offices at 800.788.2040.
