xpedx Awarded ENERGY STAR in Seattle and Cleveland Locations

Press release from the issuing company

xpedx has now earned ENERGY STAR in 22 sites since 2011

CINCINNATI – xpedx, a leading business-to-business distribution company in North America, has earned the ENERGY STAR® designation at its locations in Seattle, Wash. (7011 South 188th St., Kent) and Cleveland, Ohio. xpedx is an “ENERGY STAR partner” and is committed to responsible stewardship of natural resources.

The ENERGY STAR designation is only given to buildings scoring in the top 25 percent of similar facilities nationwide for energy efficiency, based on the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency’s (EPA) energy performance rating system. The xpedx facilities in Seattle and Cleveland meet strict energy performance standards, use less energy, are less expensive to operate and cause fewer greenhouse gas emissions than peer facilities.

“At xpedx, we strive to not only provide sustainable solutions to our customers, but also to maintain our own energy-efficient operations,” said David Wallace, xpedx director, Sustainability.

As an “ENERGY STAR partner,” xpedx is participating in a national call-to-action to improve the energy efficiency of America’s commercial and industrial buildings.

The Seattle and Cleveland sites combined have more than 270,000 square feet of space. Jedd Parker is the division manager of the Seattle location. “At xpedx, we want to protect the environment by continually improving our energy performance,” he said. “So earning the ENERGY STAR designation validates our efforts to operate a sustainable and energy-efficient facility.”

The Seattle and Cleveland locations are the first xpedx facilities to earn the ENERGY STAR designation this year. xpedx has established a goal to earn the ENERGY STAR in a total of seven facilities this year, and has already earned the ENERGY STAR at 20 locations since 2011.

ENERGY STAR is just one element of xpedx’s strategy to maintain sustainable operations, offer sustainable product choices and provide leadership in sustainable business practices. xpedx will also track recycling diversion rates at all locations in a drive to reduce landfill materials. The business is continuing a policy regarding the use of paper, in which 90 percent of its marketing materials only use paper certified to either the Forest Stewardship Council (FSC®) or Sustainable Forestry Initiative (SFI®) standards. xpedx is a SmartWay® Transport Partner, which reflects its commitment to reduce emissions from its fleet. It also aims to earn Green Globes® -- a third party rating system used to evaluate green building design -- at one of its locations this year.
