MEI Portico Version 2.5 for Adobe Digital Publishing Suite Now Available

Press release from the issuing company

MEI Portico transforms into the premier experience management solution for Adobe DPS

Jenkintown, PA - MEI Portico™ version 2.5 has been released today as part of Managing Editor Inc.’s lineup of solutions for digital publishers. MEI's Portico delivers a tailored app experience for the Adobe® Digital Publishing Suite™ Enterprise Edition. The Portico engine empowers app publishers to deepen the engagement with their audience to more than just folios or a store.

Portico allows app publishers to manage members natively with full support for Adobe’s DPS Entitlements API. This reduces operating costs by eliminating integration with a third-party authentication service, such as publisher’s print fulfillment house, and allows retail folios to override in-app purchases, making subscription management elegant and agile.

Portico’s entitlement integration lets app creators fully leverage DPS’ restricted distribution capabilities to offer folios to specific entitled users. Adding to this functionality’s value, Portico’s entitlement integration can also restrict access to content through Adobe’s browser-based folio viewer for desktop and laptop computers, making it an ideal solution for distributing content to varied audiences.

Portico now lets app publishers present content items other than traditional folios in their apps. The Portico experience management platform can support a wide range of non-folio content, like FaceTime sessions and Google Maps to cross-promotional items like referral URLs to iTunes Store downloads and rich media ads, making apps powered by Portico more than just a collection of folios.

“Portico gives publishers a great way to increase app stickiness by distributing more relevant content through a single distribution channel,” said Brett Kizner, MEI’s director of new product marketing. “They can now increase app utility with these options while also cross-promoting other digital products on one custom-branded platform.”

In addition to promoting folios, Portico can highlight non-folio app content. Users of Portico-powered apps can now be directed to specific stories within folios, other related apps, external links and much more. App publishers have the ability to update these featured content sets on the fly using the convenient, browser-based Portico admin dashboard.

All app content can be categorized in the admin to display selected content to specific groups. This feature, powered by user authentication, allows for separation of content into discrete user experiences so app publishers distribute audience-specific content. And Portico’s ability to support DPS libraries both online and offline makes sure that users are continuously engaged in a branded, content-rich experience whether shopping or browsing their downloads.

Portico’s refined API increases flexibility and ease of use for teams designing custom canvases in HTML, opening up possibilities for teams lacking development experience to customize their app experiences.

App publishers can continue to expect consistent Portico features to further specialize their DPS apps, like RSS feeds of website content and real-time social media updates displayed on specific canvases.

“The need to specialize and target content is fast becoming the standard as apps become more sophisticated,” said Mark Leister, MEI’s senior vice president of business development. “With Portico 2.5, it’s easier than ever for app publishers to directly connect to the right audiences with the right content.”
