Tensor Awarded Contract To Supply Seventy-Six Press Units

Press release from the issuing company

WOODRIDGE, IL (March 12, 2004) – Hurriyet Gazetecilik ve Matbaacilik A.S., a subsidiary of Dogan Yayin Holding (DYH) of Istanbul, Turkey, has awarded Tensor Group, Inc. a prime contract to supply web press equipment for two of Dogan Printing Centers’ (DPC) plants. The complete order totals seventy-six (76) press units, three (3) folders and twenty-five (25) splicers. The majority of the order will be installed at the DPC Adana location. Dogan Printing Centers are owned by Dogan Publishing Holdings (DYH), publisher of many highly recognized daily newspapers. All group titles are printed in Dogan Printing Centers, which are located in six major cities in Turkey. The total circulation of the group titles can reach up to 3,200,000 copies at the weekends. The titles published and printed at the Adana Dogan Printing Center plant include Hurriyet, Milliyet, Posta, Radikal, Fanatik, Gözcü and Finansal Forum. In addition to the DYH group titles, three other national titles are also printed in DPC as contract jobs. With the installation of the Tensor equipment, the Dogan Printing Center plant situated in the Mediterranean coastal town of Adana, will have the honor of housing and operating what is believed to be the world’s largest single width web pressline. The configuration will consist entirely of Tensor 1400 series units, replacing the existing pressline. The continuous new pressline will cover approximately 59 meters (194 linear feet), and will contain thirteen (13) 4-high towers, six (6) 2-highs, and three (3) Tensor H-50 folders. Twenty-five (25) zero-speed splicers are to be installed below press level. Each printing unit features remote ink and motorized register controls, essential for crisp, clean print quality. The high-speed heavy-duty jaw folders are designed for 12-web capacity and afford greatly increased product output. In addition to the Adana location, the Hurriyet contract specifies equipment for the Dogan Printing Center Antalya location. This order is for three (3) of the Tensor T-1400 4-highs, which will be added to their existing equipment. “The Dogan Group evaluated press systems from all of the major vendors and selected Tensor,” stated Hamil Alniacik, Managing Director of Dogan Printing Center. Alniacik added, “DPC Adana location prints up to 480,000 newspapers daily and has the largest distribution area, which makes the on-time delivery most critical. As we have to print 10 daily titles in a very limited production slot, we decided to choose a single width, single plate around press, which enables fast job changeovers and short make-ready times. Some other technical aspects were strength of the frame of printing units and attractive, strong, reliable folders, which is the most critical part of a press if you plan future extensions. As the DPC organization, we are also very quality-conscious. This is why we chose the Tensor press.” “The new Tensor presses will replace our existing presses and enable us to boost color capacity, print quality and on time delivery while increasing the current production speed. We’ll have the flexibility to run three products simultaneously, or by using the selectability of the towers, we can print two titles up to 48 broadsheet pages with 32 pages in full color simultaneously. Using the capability and flexibility of H-50 jaw folders and the towers, we are also planning to move into commercial contract printing,’’ stated Alniacik. “Hurriyet’s newspaper market is constantly demanding more color pages with exceptional quality color, in addition to increased pages per print edition,” said Don Gustafson, Tensor’s President. “Dogan Printing Center produces an incredible array of newspaper and commercial products and requires versatile units that could handle the growing and diverse nature of their business.” Gustafson adds, “Hurriyet’s expectations were well researched and defined, and we are very pleased to be chosen by one of the leading newspaper organizations in the world.” Tensor Group, Inc. is a privately held U.S. manufacturer of single width web offset press equipment for commercial, insert and newspaper markets worldwide. Over 1500 units have been successfully installed in more than 23 countries since the company’s inception in 1993.
