Apago Introduces New Products with JDF Support at Drupa 2004

Press release from the issuing company

Alpharetta, Georgia, USA; March 23, 2004 — Software developer Apago, Inc. will introduce a series of new and updated products with support for JDF job tickets at the Drupa 2004 trade show in Düsseldorf, Germany, May 6-19. “JDF is an exciting new technology and will be the highlight of the Drupa 2004 show. The promise of JDF is the seamless integration of systems from multiple vendors to produce a fully automated workflow,” says Dwight Kelly, president of Apago. “Since participating in the first JDF Workflow Integration Tour at Seybold San Francisco 2003, Apago has been busy developing new products that leverage JDF, and Drupa 2004 is the perfect venue for their unveiling,” said Kelly. The new products Apago will introduce at its stand in the Drupa Software Innovation Parc between Halls 1, 2, 3 and 4 are: Piktor v4.0 - This software lets prepress and print professionals convert between numerous formats including PostScript, DCS, PDF, PDF/X and raster files, such as TIFF, JPEG and more complex formats such as TIFF/IT and Brisque CT/LW. Previous versions of Piktor supported automation using one or more “hot folders” -- each with an associated conversion setting. Piktor v4.0 utilizes JDF job tickets to dynamically configure format conversions, avoiding the need for complex cascading hot folder configurations. PDF Enhancer v3.0 will add JDF job ticket support to this powerful PDF assembly and repurposing software. PDF Enhancer can embed or modify JDF job tickets, stored as XML inside a PDF file. As in Piktor v4.0, JDF job tickets will replace hot folder configurations allowing more complex workflows with less confusion. Also to debut at Drupa, Apago will unveil a new server-based program for imposing PDF pages into printing signatures. Using JDF imposition templates created in such programs as Creo Preps and Dynagram DynaStrip, Apago’s imposition program can quickly and repetitively create complex impositions without the attention of a human operator. “The key advantage of a JDF job ticket is that it contains all of the options needed to process any print file, all the way from the document creator to the bindery,” said Kelly. “By integrating support for JDF job tickets into our software, Apago customers are able to easily integrate our products into their automated workflows.”
