New Processor Pushes Higher Performance Standard for MFNs and Color Copiers

Press release from the issuing company

SAN MATEO, Calif.--March 23, 2004--TAK'ASIC, Inc., a leading innovator in dedicated imaging processors and solutions, today introduced the TAKB4, a feature-rich processor providing the fastest performance for multifunction peripherals (MFPs) and color copiers among competitive solutions. Based on fourth-generation ASIC technology, the TAKB4 incorporates the most robust, industry-compatible JBIG codec available to OEMs today. Capable of handling up to 280 pages-per-minute for A4-size 600-dpi images, the TAKB4 has been specifically designed to deliver unparalleled throughput performance in color printing and copying applications. "Once again we are raising the industry performance bar for imaging solutions with the TAKB4," said Doug Goodyear, CEO of TAK'ASIC. "Two years ago TAK'ASIC helped create a new price/performance standard in color laser printing, and we believe that the TAKB4 can have the same impact on the growing color copier and MFP markets." The TAKB4 meets all OEM requirements for design flexibility, component reuse, and reduced development costs without compromising performance. The chip has 8 KB built-in memory and internal Phase-Locked Loop (PLL) that eliminate external hardware components. The TAKB4 can seamlessly interface with most industry processors without the need for glue logic, allowing OEMs to streamline system designs and reduce the overall solution cost. "The new TAK'ASIC solution is ideally suited to meet the performance requirements for next-generation print server controllers," said Marc Blumer, Vice President, Advanced Hardware Technologies, for EFI, the world leader in digital imaging and print management solutions. The new processor provides streamlined multi-tasking capability for interrupt-driven image processing. For MFPs, the enhanced multi-tasking feature optimizes simultaneous scanning and printing of documents, and is ideally suited for large files with color images. The TAKB4's multi-tasking capability increases processor efficiency by greatly reducing the overhead involved in simultaneous compression/decompression processes. The TAKB4 features a flexible interface mode that enables it to be connected directly to 8-, 16-, and 32-bit system buses, providing a performance upgrade to a host of existing and new system designs The new chip complements a growing family of TAK'ASIC ultra-fast processors for printers and copiers that includes the TAKB3 for price-sensitive applications, and the TAKPRO-800, a highly integrated SOC for demanding workgroup-class color printers. The company is currently demonstrating the TAKPRO-800 driving fast tandem engines for key OEMs. For additional technical information on the TAKB4, please visit www.takasic.com or contact our sales representatives.
