Standard Finishing Announces New Product Installations

Press release from the issuing company

Andover, MA – Standard Finishing Systems, a leading supplier of post-press and paper handling solutions for the graphic arts and print on demand markets, announces the following new product installations:

SpringDot of Cincinnati, OH recently added a new Standard Horizon VAC-1000 collator and ST-40 in-line stacker to its full-service printing and finishing operation. Featuring a patented rotary-pulse vacuum feed system, providing flawless feeding on virtually any stock, at speeds up to 9,900 sets per hour. “The new VAC towers and in-line stacker will enable us to meet the stringent production requirements of several key customers with speed and accuracy,” according to COO Rick Autzen. The ST-40 in-line stacker also incorporates an innovative error rejection system and eliminates the need to roll away heavy finishing accessories which can be both time-consuming and detrimental to the production process.  The VAC-1000/ST-40, like the Standard Horizon AFC-744 folder which SpringDot acquired two years ago, will benefit both SpringDot and its customers when either traditional offset and digital printing applications demand fast production turn-around, flexibility, and professional results…all of which are key to one’s continuing success.  The sale was completed by Standard dealer Graphco of Solon, OH. SpringDot has served the greater Cincinnati market for over 108 years and provides full service commercial printing with state-of-the-art equipment, including prepress, finishing and fulfillment, as well as graphic and website design services.

Usherwood Office Tehnology recently added a Standard Horizon BQ-270V automated perfect binder and Standard Horizon HT-30C automated three-side trimmer to their Syracuse, NY location, increasing short-run print-on-demand book production capabilities for their clients. The binder features an automated, sensor-activated digital caliper system to ensure consistent measurement of book block thickness every time and is also capable of variable binding for true on demand production of books of different thicknesses. The trimmer can automatically feed up to 12" of books for unattended operation after loading. "We were able to increase productivity almost immediately with the addition of these new machines, which allow superior perfect bound books to be produced by a single operator", reports Louis Usherwood, President and CEO at Usherwood Office Technology. "The simple set-up, changeover, and operation were key factors in our decision, however the quality of the books was even more critical - and the Standard BQ-270V and HT-30C surpass expectations in that area as well." The sale was completed by Standard dealer Precision Offset & Bindery of Rochester, NY. Usherwood Office Technology is a full service company that sells and services technology solutions from industry leading manufacturers such as Canon/Océ, Microsoft, Lexmark, and Hewlett Packard, with office locations in Albany, Binghamton, Buffalo, Syracuse, Rochester, Plattsburgh, and Potsdam.
