TAPPI Standards Receive ANSI Approval

ATLANTA, Ga. – Three TAPPI Standards have been approved by the American National Standards Institute (ANSI) as American National Standards it was announced today.

"Accreditation by ANSI as American National Standards indicates the TAPPI Standards have met the rigorous procedures and requirements that ensures they are of the highest quality and integrity," notes Charles Bohanan, Director of Standards for TAPPI. "This designation is also the result of many hours of hard work by a dedicated number of individuals that developed and reviewed the standards and I would like to extend my thanks to them all."

The Standards approved are:

  • T 271 om-12 Fiber length of pulp and paper by automated optical analyzer using polarized light
  • T 512 sp-12 Creasing of flexible packaging material paper specimens for testing

  • T 834 om-12 Determination of containerboard roll hardness

ANSI is a private non-profit organization that oversees the development of voluntary consensus standards for

products, services, processes, systems, and personnel in the United States. It also coordinates U.S. standards with international standards so that American products can be used worldwide. ANSI accreditation signifies that the procedures used by standards developing organizations meet the Institute's requirements for openness, balance, consensus, and due process. ANSI designates specific standards as American National Standards when the Institute determines that the standards were developed in an environment that is equitable, accessible and responsive to the requirements of various stakeholders.

TAPPI Standards are established in order to provide the industry with testing standards that produce accurate and precise methods of testing pulp, paper or related products.
