Muller Martini’s Solit Three-Knife Trimmer provides unsurpassed trim quality for the low to mid-range binding market

Friday, January 18, 2013

Press release from the issuing company

Performance features, which include a 3-minute make-ready, are based on Muller Martini’s highly successful Orbit Trimmer platform

Binders who want to compete in the small and medium print run market need a perfect binding line that can deliver a high level of production in the shortest time possible, while also producing optimum print quality. Muller Martini’s Solit Three-Knife Trimmer meets both criteria with changeover time of less than three minutes, coupled with outstanding quality.

The Solit features:

  • Complete automation from the book infeed to the trimming center, including the pressing plates and knife cassettes without the use of tools, helps ensure changeover times of less than three minutes.
  • Patented SmartPress Technology—proven in production on the high-performance Orbit Three Knife Trimmer—produces a gentle, controlled pressing procedure in which the air between the sheets of paper can fully escape from the product. This eliminates chipping and spine wrinkling and is the optimal pre-condition for the perfect trim.
  • The Solit’s 4,500 cph and 85mm trim thickness capacity represent the highest cycle speeds and the largest format range in its performance class.
  • Servo-controlled axis and a robust, single-piece machine frame provide quiet runs, a short footprint and excellent accessibility.

Jody Harrison, Division Manager – Book Technology, observed, “The Solit represents a well-positioned product that answers a lot of questions for the mid-range market since it delivers all the automation, speed, throughput and quality that’s available with Muller’s top-line trimming equipment. It can process a variety of products, and just like the higher-end Orbit, the Solit’s crossover capabilities make it an ideal fit for both digital and offset production environments.”
