Totalpost Updates Mailroom Security at Top UK Insurer

Press release from the issuing company

One of the biggest insurance companies in the UK has taken delivery of 3 top of the range conveyer and cabinet x-ray threat detection screening systems from Totalpost Services Plc to screen their incoming mail.

Intended for use within their mailrooms the new equipment is located at multiple sites across the country.

The screening devices were delivered in October to replace existing systems that had become out of date.

The company screen every piece of incoming mail including standard letters and parcels to make sure that any unseen threats are detected. For them, obtaining the right x-ray threat detection machinery was essential to ensure the safety of staff as well as the security of their buildings.

There are a number of potential threats that mailrooms need to be aware of ranging from sharp objects such as razor blades through to suspicious powders. Modern x-ray threat detection equipment makes it easy for mailroom staff to spot threats as the imagery produced from the screening is extremely clear. Additionally the use of atomic number imaging on some machines makes it easy for operatives to spot threats as unique 6 colour imaging enables operators to view screened objects in 6 colours. Each colour correlates to a specific range of Atomic Z-Numbers. 6 colour imaging allows screening operatives to achieve optimal material identification and improve throughput with more effective screening technology.

For this particular project 2 different types of threat detection machine were utilised. These were Totalpost's large cabinet x-ray screening device and an Astrophysics conveyer model (XIS-6040) at the head office site.

The Large Cabinet x-ray screener allows for easy screening of all items of post right up to larger parcels and baggage. The XIS-6040 conveyer machine is one of the most compact conveyer x-ray detection machines on the market and utilises all of the high technology seen throughout the Astrophysics range including 6 colour imaging and Real-Time diagnostics. Because it is a conveyer rather than a cabinet model it is ideal for the efficient processing of a high volume of mail.

Speaking about the new equipment, the National Facilities Manager at the insurance company comments: "We are very pleased with the new cabinet screening equipment. The scanned imagery is very clear and so our mailroom staff are able to screen post and parcels for threats quickly and easily. Additionally the use of the atomic number imagery has also led to increased confidence when screening for threats.

"Totalpost has provided us with an efficient and friendly service and has been on hand to help us through the installation and training process."

David Hymers, Managing Director at Totalpost says: "Mailroom security is increasingly a concern for many of our customers. There is a growing demand for easy to use screening technology incorporating the most up to date technology encompassed in a system that fits easily into any environment. Cabinet x-ray systems are perfect for this purpose, with conveyor systems used in higher volume mailroom where speed is even more essential."

The exclusive UK distributor of the Astrophysics Inc range of threat detection technology, Totalpost supply and maintain a full range of x-ray threat detection equipment ideal for use across a variety of applications from corporate mailrooms through to checkpoints and airport freight screening.
