3D Artist Displays Collection at London's Graphic Bar

Press release from the issuing company

Renowned Liverpool 3D artist Jim Sharp has announced that London's stylish venue Graphic Bar is currently displaying a collection of his unique 3D Anaglyph paintings, including one featuring an image from a Yoko Ono event.

The innovative collection, which also includes a stunning 3D photo of the skyline of New York taken from the top of the Empire State Building is being displayed in the Graphic Bar, situated in the media hub of London's Golden Square.

One of Jim's most iconic 3D images which is also on display is of a broken step ladder. Jim saw it at one of Yoko Ono's artistic events, when Yoko had an installation at a bombed out church in Liverpool. Guests had been invited to bring along old step ladders to the venue for her display. Jim took a stereo photograph of one then painted it 6ft high in 3D and it now forms an integral part of the unique collection.

Jim's images are all deceptively simple 3D anaglyph paintings but their perspective comes alive when viewed through 3D glasses. Moving your angle of view causes an optical illusion of the image appearing to change its perspective.

Jim's work is inspired by Charles Wheatstone, who created the first stereoscopic drawings back in 1838. Jim has also stripped out all the visual clues of light, shade, perspective and scale to concentrate on the actual perception of depth as the main purpose of his paintings.

Commenting on his collection, Jim said, "It's great to see the reaction of people when they first experience the 3D effect of my paintings through the 3D glasses."

The collection is on display at the Graphic Bar until March 2013, and guests are provided with 3D glasses along with 3D menus.

The Graphic Bar has showcased art by a variety of artists including Ben Allen and Turner Prize winner Mark Wallinger, whose work has been showcased at galleries all over the world.

Jim, a former pupil of Liverpool's Art High School, started converting images to 3D back in 1982, with his own company, Pinsharp 3D Graphics, has been concentrating on his 3D work primarily since 1993, and even crafted a short film about how birds see earlier this year.

He is currently working on new 3D paintings and a new film about illusions in art and is happy to be contacted for commissions.
