PROSPER Press Platform to enable fully digital, color newspaper production in 2013
GENEVA, SWITZERLAND, - For more than 100 years, Kodak has provided its newspaper customers with robust, flexible solutions that streamline production and increase efficiency. As the market has changed and demands on newspaper publishers have increased, Kodak has kept pace, offering a portfolio of solutions that address the need for faster production with very high quality at lower cost. This portfolio includes workflow and automation solutions, computer-to-plate devices, plates, proofing, screening, digital printing, and services.
At WAN-IFRA's World Publishing Expo 2012 in Frankfurt, October 29 to 31, attendees can visit the Kodak stand (210) to learn about the company's full range of existing newspaper solutions, and talk about future solutions as well-including newspaper applications that will be addressed by the PROSPER Press Platform.
"Newspaper publishers and printers around the world today rely on KODAK Solutions to make the production process more efficient and improve quality," said Karen Mitchell, Kodak's Worldwide Director, Publishing Segment. "We know that their businesses are changing almost daily, and that the challenges they face differ greatly by region. There is no one-size-fits-all solution, so that's why we have developed a range of scalable products that can be customized for any environment. And that's also why we are bringing new solutions to market all the time."
PROSPER Press Platform extends to newspaper printing in 2013
The KODAK PROSPER Press Platform is a proven solution for direct mail printers and book publishers, and in 2013, Kodak will extend those applications to include newspaper printing. Based on innovative KODAK Stream Inkjet Technology, the existing KODAK PROSPER Press Platform delivers digital without compromise, enabling print service providers to produce offset class output in terms of quality, productivity and cost for their clients. For example, the KODAK PROSPER 5000XL Press brings offset-class output approaching 175 lines per inch with roll-fed speeds of up to 650 feet per minute (200 mpm) and features a monthly duty cycle of up to 90 million A4 pages.
"The beauty of the PROSPER Technology is that it is scalable, meaning that we can use the technology to develop targeted solutions for almost any application. The benefits for newspaper professionals will be many. For example, with the PROSPER Press Platform, newspaper printers can enjoy higher speed, greater width, and better image quality as compared to many of the drop on demand technologies in the market today," added Mitchell.
Fastest imprinting solutions for hybrid applications
The KODAK PROSPER S-Series Imprinting Systems currently available for newspaper printers and publishers enable inline digital printing on an offset press for variable data at full press speeds. With a print width of up to 4.16 inches (10.6 cm), the PROSPER S-Series Imprinting Systems can be used for monochrome or CMYK production and run at speeds up to 3,000 feet per minute (900 mpm) with maximum resolution for newspaper applications of 600 x 300 dpi. These solutions give newspapers the ability to seamlessly combine digital content with offset content to drive higher value for readers and advertisers alike.
"With the PROSPER S-Series Imprinting Systems, Kodak offers the fastest solutions on the market today for blending offset printing and variable data," added Mitchell. "Our customers are leading the way in new business models that leverage this technology to drive growth and uncover new revenue opportunities."
