Sussex, Wis. - ColorMetrix Technologies has developed an innovative software solution called Normalizer to minimize the differences between color verification instruments of multiple manufacturers.

With the introduction of the Normalizer technology, ColorMetrix provides an option to take a spectral reflectance curve of a target color and then let unique algorithms created by the company's developers adjust that color for variables such as illuminant, observer and the instruments used to take the measurements.

Normalizer joins two of ColorMetrix's earlier color verification and brand management solutions, ProofPass and VerifiedColor, to strengthen the Open Color Ecosystem, an initiative based on the idea that no one entity should own color.

"While each of these cloud-based modules is useful in its standard configuration, our real strength lies with the ability to customize these solutions for our clients' unique and individual workflow requirements," James Raffel, Chief Executive Officer of ColorMetrix, said.

According to Raffel, a true Open Color Ecosystem requires that the supply chain own the colors and be able to distribute them to other supply chain members in clear and meaningful ways; even if the same instrumentation is not being used to measure color throughout the process. Raffel said Normalizer is the key piece of technology that enables the system to work.

Since instruments and manufacturing methods vary (while still adhering to international standards), differences are to be expected when measuring color. These differences make it difficult to share measured values without knowing the receiving party has the same brand and model of instrument. After an 18-month development period, ColorMetrix released the Normalizer technology to solve this problem.

"No longer does an instrument need to drive the measurement system," said Raffel. "Instead members of the color supply chain can select the instrument most appropriate for their application and trust Normalizer to deliver the correct reference values."

ColorMetrix first announced development in January and Normalizer has been operating in the industry as part of a partner's workflow since April.
