Quad/Graphics Named Newsweek Printer of the Year for 19th Consecutive Year

Press release from the issuing company

SUSSEX, Wis.--March 4, 2004-- Quad/Graphics has been named Newsweek's Printer of the Year for 2003, marking the 19th consecutive year one of the printer's facilities has earned the coveted distinction. The title is one of the highest honors a printer can earn for outstanding performance. "We have nothing but kudos to say about Quad/Graphics' Hartford plant," said John Nallen, Newsweek Director of Manufacturing. "Quad/Graphics delivers consistent, on-time performance every week of the year. We make tough demands on our printers, and Quad continues to produce at the highest level of consistency and quality. The employees at Quad help make Newsweek's manufacturing and distribution operations easier each week. Congratulations to all." Added Thomas A. Quadracci, Quad/Graphics President & CEO: "Our corporate goal is to provide each of our clients with consistent, timely, high-quality production. Our employees' dedication to that goal is unyielding, and Newsweek's honor is evidence of that commitment." Newsweek judges its printers on seven key criteria: 1) quality, 2) paper waste on covers, 3) paper waste on current forms, 4) turnaround time from the last file to the first book, 5) time needed to produce the first 100,000 books, 6) bindery books per hour, and 7) service and support. "Newsweek expects high-quality product with little waste, and Quad/Graphics delivers year in and year out," said Mark Heeman, Newsweek Associate Director of Advertising Production. "To have one printer win our Printer of the Year award for 19 straight years says a lot about the relationship we've formed." Five printing plants vied for Newsweek's top award, with Quad/Graphics' plant in Hartford, Wis., earning the top honor. Quad/Graphics first printed for Newsweek in 1977, a watershed moment for the then-6-year-old printer with a single facility in Pewaukee, Wis. Today, Quad/Graphics prints 2.2 million weekly copies of the magazine.
