Graphic Arts Luminaries To Roast Industry Personality, Dick Vinocur

Press release from the issuing company

March 4, 2004 -- RIT's Frank Romano and American Printer’s Katherine O’Brien will lead a dozen industry luminaries in (gently) roasting Dick Vinocur on March 28 at 7:00 p.m. at theMarriott Wardman Park Hotel, (Washington, DC), the day prior to the start of the VUE/POINT 2004 conference. The event is intended as a celebration of Vinocur’s semi-retirement. Vinocur got his start in the graphic arts industry some 25 years ago as publisher of Graphic Arts Monthly Magazine. After leading the publication through the most profitable years in its history, he left the corporate publishing world in 1986 to start FOOTPRINTS, a widely read newsletter that served as the intelligence source of the industry for over 15 years. The twice-monthly publication combined industry news and Vinocur’s no-holds-barred commentary, helping develop his reputation as one of the few industry pundits willing to "tell it like it is." In 1990 he launched the first VUE/POINT conference, which over the years grew to be the industry’s most respected and substantive confab, offering "truth from the trenches, not pitches from the podium." After a successful 11-year run, the event was sold to the Graphic Arts Show Co. Although he's no longer publishing FOOTPRINTS, Vinocur is busier than ever, consulting for NAPL and writing for AMERICAN PRINTER magazine. “Dick Vinocur has been the chronicle and conscience of the printing industry for over a decade,” says Frank Romano. “He taught me everything I know about publishing, and I often refer to that sheet of paper for guidance and inspiration.” Featured roasters and this unique industry event will be: - John Berthelsen, President, Suttle-Straus, (Waunakee, WI) - Don Carli, CEO, Nima Hunter Inc., (New York City) - Regis Delmontagne President, Graphic Arts Show Co., (Reston, VA) - Joel Friedman Executive Director, Heidelberg Direct Imaging Assn.
