Kodak at PABS 2012

Press release from the issuing company

Kodak will deliver insights and demonstrate technologies designed to strengthen brand owners’ defense against product counterfeiting and diversion at the 9th annual Product Authentication & Brand Security (PABS) Conference. PABS 2012 will feature Kodak as part of its specialized focus on the technologies used to create, implement and enforce brand protection, product security and anticounterfeiting strategies. The conference will be held Sept. 10-11 at the Hyatt Rosemont in Rosemont, Ill.

The Technologies & Solutions track of PABS 2012 will include a session by Kevin Harrell, Director of Global Commercial Business for Kodak’s Security Solutions at 11:15 a.m. on Tuesday, Sept. 11. Harrell’s presentation, “Brand Protection Techniques: Think Like a Diverter,” will discuss the implementation of both layered overt and covert brand protection security features within packaging, inks, substrates, plastics and directly in product materials. Harrell will also discuss software solutions that enable brand owners to use track and trace techniques with their security print features.

“Kodak’s expertise and technologies have successfully enabled global brand owners and manufacturers to keep counterfeit and diverted products off the shelves of retailers and out of the hands of consumers,” said Harrell. “We constantly refine our technologies to deliver a more precise and powerful solution that protects both the bottom line and reputation of a customer’s brand. This also helps to safeguard end consumers from dangerous counterfeits and cases of fraud caused by product diversion through unlicensed channels.”

Kodak’s portfolio of solutions for anticounterfeiting and anti-diversion allow brand owners in any vertical industry to reduce their exposure to these threats by creating a comprehensive brand protection strategy. The result is a complete system that can integrate invisible product authentication, overt or visible artwork-based authentication, anti-diversion markers and product serialization with track and trace capabilities.Kodak’s proven anticounterfeiting and diversion solutions are currently being used by major pharmaceutical, health and beauty, consumer product and luxury goods manufacturers around the world.

With the current popularity of its clear security ink, Kodak has recently expanded its anti-diversion line to include colored inks. The new colored inks can be customized to match a brand’s specific identity and logo, which enables brand owners to introduce security features to their packaging without noticeable changes to the package’s existing look or design. Brand owners can apply these unique security and brand features to their products inside their own facilities, since the inks are compatible with most continuous inkjet end-of-line printers. This capability strengthens brand owners’ product security strategies by keeping packaging changes confidential and discreet.

For brand owners interested in marking, detecting and tracking products, Kodak also offers an end-to-end system with its track and trace solutions. Track and trace systems can be used with variable print applications for mass serialization. The system leverages Kodak’s capabilities in chemical and imaging to ensure that markers are high quality and forensically undetectable.

“Brand owners are under a good deal of pressure to protect their products, consumers and financial assets in the global marketplace. Kodak is here to help make that process easier,” said Harrell. “We understand the threats that brand owners face and we are committed to developing high-performing solutions and technologies that combat these risks head on.”
