Press release from the issuing company

LAKE SUCCESS, N.Y.--Feb. 26, 2004-- Canon U.S.A., Inc., a subsidiary of Canon Inc. and a leader in digital imaging solutions, today announced its continued success in maintaining the number one brand position in both the black-and-white and color copier markets, according to Gartner Dataquest*. For the second consecutive year, Canon is number one in market share in every speed segment of the black-and-white copier market in the U.S. In addition, for the 21st time in the last 22 years, Canon is number one overall in black-and-white copiers, with 33% share in the U.S. Canon also continued its #1 brand market share position in the color copier market. For the 17th consecutive year Canon is the overall market brand leader in the U.S. color laser copier market, with 27% share. The tremendous success of the Color imageRUNNER C3200 enabled the Canon brand to lead the U.S. color market in 2003. "With a tradition of strength in the U.S. copier market, Canon has been particularly pleased by the success of the Color imageRUNNER C3200 and the pace by which color usage is growing in the general office," said Kinya Uchida, President and CEO of Canon U.S.A. "Being number one in every speed segment of the black-and-white copier market, for the second year in a row, however, is an even stronger indicator of our overall success and the superior value proposition provided by the Canon copier brand over our competitors." The Gartner Dataquest research studies focused on market share for color and black-and-white copiers of both digital and analog technology, including PC copiers (1-10 ppm) and copiers in Segments 1-6, which range in speed from 11 to 91+ copies-per-minute (cpm).
