Markzware’s PDF2DTP Free with QuarkXPress 9

Press release from the issuing company

Quark announced today that for a limited time all purchases and upgrades to QuarkXPress 9 will include a free copy of Markzware’s brand new PDF2DTP (PDF to Desktop Publishing) software. PDF2DTP is XTensions software for QuarkXPress that enables designers to turn any PDF into an editable QuarkXPress 9 project. PDF2DTP for QuarkXPress 9 is the first tool of its kind and supports both Mac and Windows platforms.

Every graphic designer knows the problems:

-- A client has a PDF that needs “minor” changes but the source files, native layouts, and images aren’t available — all that remains is the PDF.
-- A document requires localization but all that exists is a PDF in a foreign language. The two documents must be identical and the layout must be built again from scratch.
-- A folder is accidentally deleted and all that can be recovered is a PDF file. There are corrections to be made but first it will have to be recreated in a new layout.

Markzware’s PDF2DTP solves the issues associated with finding or recreating images, layers, transparencies, fonts, colors, and styles by turning PDFs into QuarkXPress 9 files. The new XTensions software converts all types of PDFs to editable QuarkXPress 9 documents with one click, dramatically reducing the time and costs associated with recreating content.

PDF2DTP for QuarkXPress 9 converts all elements that are possible to bring over from the PDF, including text, colors, and images. It will also extract the images embedded within most PDFs and saves them in a separate folder. Typically the new software retails for $199, but from now until September 30, 2012 all new purchases of and upgrades to QuarkXPress 9 will include a copy of PDF2DTP for free.

I tried it on a PDF for a book that had 524 pages, and it took less than 5 minutes to make the total conversion. It even isolated the images in separate files."
