Neopost acquires GMC Software Technology

WhatTheyThink was notified by GMC CEO Dr. René Mueller that the company has been acquired by Neopost. Dr. Mueller cites as a key reason for the acquisition the fact that he wanted to ensure longevity for the company and neither of his daughters had an interest in taking over the reins.  Dr. Mueller will remain as CEO for a year, and will be involved with the Board for an additional 18 months to ensure a smooth transition.
 
GMC and Neopost aren’t new to each other, having worked together over the last few years and having in place a Value-Added Reseller and OEM contract. GMC will remain an independent company within the Neopost group.
 
Over the last couple of years, GMC CMO Bill Parker has spearheaded a repositioning of GMC and its products, shifting focus from print/mail to being a customer communications platform, a broader view of what GMC solutions do. This resulted in a change of product name from PrintNet-T to Inspire, and a new look and feel for the company and its products.
 
Visiting the Neopost site reveals a heavy focus on mail and a strategic vision that also is mail-centric. It remains to be seen how the broader GMC vision will merge with the current Neopost focus, and whether the broader vision will win out in the end or become hampered by the Neopost print/mail focus.  One would hope, especially with the continued leadership of Dr. Mueller and his executive team, that the former would be the case.  We’ll stay in touch and keep our readers informed, as always!
