Xaar Strengthens its Focus on Packaging and Industrial Markets

Press release from the issuing company

February 23, 2004 -- In line with its plan to deploy its technology into wider markets, Xaar plc has expanded its business development team with three new appointments. Bryan Palphreyman and Peter Addington have been appointed as business development managers for the packaging sector, and John Attard has taken on the role of business development for organic semiconductors and other “functional fluid” applications. Commenting on the appointments, Nigel Berry, head of Business Development for Xaar plc, says “Technology deployment into wider markets plays an important part in Xaar’s strategy moving forward. Inkjet technology has the potential to have a significant impact in the packaging and industrial markets due to its considerable versatility, accuracy and flexibility to digitally print both image and function on a wide variety of substrates. The new appointments, which bring a wealth of specialist industry experience to Xaar, demonstrate the company’s intention to exploit these markets and will ensure the development of strong customer relationships. Xaar is also in the process of developing new products for these markets.” In his role as business development manager for packaging, Bryan Palphreyman will be responsible for developing relationships with new and existing customers and generating new business with a particular focus on the labels market. Bryan is a qualified electrical engineer and has a strong background in labelling and coding and marking, having held senior sales positions within companies including LogoPack, Weber Marking Systems, Willett and Sessions of York Ltd. Peter Addington will also be responsible for developing new business opportunities, focusing on cartons. Before joining Xaar, Peter spent the last fourteen years running his own consultancy in cost-efficient packaging solutions for clients primarily in the food and drink industries. Prior to this, he held several senior packaging development roles at Schweppes International and Express Foods Group. John Attard, in his business development role for new technologies will focus on the organic semiconductor and printed electronics markets. Prior to his appointment at Xaar, he gained 15 years of international experience as a specialist in the management and commercialisation of science and technology. In recent years, John has held senior business development and management positions at Cambridge Display Technology, Rescitech Ltd, Philips Electronics in The Netherlands and SINTEF Unimed in Norway.
