International Paper Ranks No. 1 on FORTUNE List of Admired Companies

Press release from the issuing company

STAMFORD, Conn., Feb. 23 -- International Paper today announced that FORTUNE magazine has named IP the No. 1 company for the Forest and Paper Products sector in its annual report of "America's Most Admired Companies," marking the second year IP has topped the industry in the independent ranking. The survey assessed companies on eight key attributes of reputation: innovativeness, employee talent, use of corporate assets, social responsibility, quality of management, financial soundness, long-term investment value and quality of products and services. The Most Admired survey was conducted by an independent management consulting firm on behalf of FORTUNE. The firm took the 10 largest companies by revenue in 64 industries and surveyed 10,000 executives, directors and securities analysts, who rated the companies in their own industries using the eight criteria. "This is great recognition for the talents of the entire International Paper team and all the good work they do every day. I am extremely proud of our employees and honored to be recognized by our industry peers," said John Faraci, chairman and chief executive officer. The Most Admired Companies list appears in the issue of FORTUNE that goes on sale March 1 and is currently available at www.fortune.com.
