GamSys Partners with Enfocus

Press release from the issuing company

Enfocus today announces a technology partnership with GamSys, a developer of MIS solutions for the printing, packaging and publishing industries. Under the agreement, GamSys will integrate Enfocus' latest PitStop 11 'Smart Preflight and Correction' functionality into its PartnerWeb Configuration and PartnerWeb Publication web-to-print solutions, being the first provider of print MIS solutions to do so.

"We partnered with Enfocus in response to our customers' demand for a more streamlined delivery of PDF files for web-to-print orders," says Patrick Vreven, CEO of GamSys. "Not only does this provide us with a competitive edge as a provider of modular MIS systems for web, sheetfed or digital printing; it also brings added value to our customers by automating the checking, reporting and correcting of web-to-print orders immediately upon delivery to the printer - allowing them to increase print buyer satisfaction."

Extending the value of MIS
Vreven points out that print buyers may not fully realize the state of PDF files being delivered to their printers, adding: "They may not know what went wrong when creating the PDF file or what characteristics might be causing a price difference.

"By applying Enfocus Smart Preflight and Correction at the point of order entry, print buyers can ensure automatically and immediately that uploaded PDF files match the job order information. This makes a workflow faster and more efficient for the printer, and avoids frustrations for the print buyer if, late in the process, it becomes known that the PDF file doesn't match the order information."

Enfocus Smart Preflight checks the delivered PDF files against the job order information, which is also provided by the print buyer via the web portal. In return, the print buyer receives an easy to understand report indicating any differences between the PDF and the order information, and what the impact will be on the price. At this point the print buyer is given the option to automatically adjust the PDF or accept the job order based on the new price.

"GamSys is the first MIS vendor to incorporate our latest Enfocus PitStop 11 Smart Preflight and Correction in their web-to-print solutions," says Angelo Manno, Global Account Manager Crossroads and OEM at Enfocus. "GamSys' customers make the right decision by accepting files through web upload to perform Smart Preflighting at this stage, since it's fully controlled by using the order information, which is delivered through a job ticket. This ensures that errors are caught and corrected before the PDF files reach the prepress, streamlining overall production and easing the workload in busy prepress departments."

Preflight specific to each job
Smart Preflight and Correction enables job specific preflighting by taking the users' specific production requirements into account. Where previously a preflight profile could only contain fixed checks and corrections, the Smart Preflight and Correction, introduced with PitStop 11, launches a new era in the automated preflighting and correcting of PDF files. Fixed preflight settings are a thing of the past with preflight profiles made dynamic to match specific job requirements, driven by job-specific information contained in JDF or XML job tickets.

"Enfocus continues to improve production environments in a profound, yet logical way," says Manno. "We round the next curve before our customers do; so that we're ready for them when they reach their next goal or destination. It is this innovative thinking and rapid development of new capabilities that attracted GamSys to our Smart Preflight and Correction technology. In addition, our use of standards and open architecture were also important decision criteria for GamSys in reaching this landmark agreement."

"The latest PitStop 11 version can be fully controlled through JDF which is a key criterion for us," concludes Vreven. "We only work with standards, and JDF is that standard. We are very pleased about our cooperation with Enfocus. They are experts in what they do and perfectly understand what we need."
