Kodak at Offset & Beyond Conference

Press release from the issuing company

Kodak Executives will take an active role in educating professionals and discussing the latest trends impacting the printing industry at the Printing Industries of America’s Offset & Beyond Conference, held June 4-6 in St. Louis.

“The Offset & Beyond Conference is a tremendous learning opportunity for print providers, and Kodak is proud to both participate in and sponsor the event,” said Kodak’s Jerry Miller, Vice President and Regional General Manager, Digital Print Solutions. “The conference will address many of the largest opportunities in the industry and deliver actionable information that attendees can use to make a direct impact on their businesses.”

Kodak executives are participating in two sessions.

Eric Wilson, Kodak’s Product Marketing Manager for Inkjet Printing Solutions is participating in a session titled “The Technology of Inkjet – Categories of Inkjet Presses, Paper, Ink, Workflow, and More.” Wilson will be joined by Jamie Dolpies, Product Manager, EFI, Inc., and the session facilitator, Dr. Mark Bohan, Vice President, Technology and Research, Printing Industries of America. The discussion will analyze the offerings from manufacturers of presses and components and identify successful integration that can be achieved by adding inkjet to an offset press environment, including workflow and shop floor considerations. Attendees will also learn the advantages of online versus near-line configurations and understand the role and potential for hybrid printing, including placement of binders, cutters, feeders, coaters and auxiliary options.

With KODAK PROSPER S-Series Imprinting Systems, print providers are able to leverage their capital investments in offset presses and bridge the gap to digital in a one-step, inline or near-line process. More than 400 PROSPER S-Series Imprinting Systems have been installed on six continents over the past three years. The PROSPER S-Series Imprinting Systems include the S5, S5 with CMYK, S10, S10 with CMYK, S20 and S30. Each solution produces laser-like quality for imprinting at a range of speeds and resolutions, bringing high-quality personalization to offset print jobs.

Kodak’s second session will feature Karen Mitchell, Kodak’s Director of Worldwide Publishing Segment, who will participate on a panel called “Standards and G7 in Action.” The panel will explain how to produce consistent, accurate color in a cost-efficient manner. Session attendees will see how the G7 standard is affecting the digital arena and how it is applied. The panel will also discuss the process of becoming G7 certified and the benefits of the certification.

“It is crucial to meet customers’ color accuracy expectations, and the G7 standard makes ‘proof-to-press matching’ a reality,” said Mitchell. “An essential step in closing the color match gap has been the simulation of paper stocks. Proofing devices and software have come a long way toward helping printers achieve accurate colors across substrates and press platforms.”

G7 is not a standard in and of itself. It is one methodology to achieve ISO-12647x compliance. G7 defines the factors that can be used to provide consistent gray scale (not color) reproduction across multiple devices, processes and media. An ISO-based print specification is an interpretation of the ISO 12647 standard for a particular process or user group. It's the the ISO 12647x standard that provides the color requirements.
