LASERLINE Invests in State-of-the-Art Technology from Heidelberg

Press release from the issuing company

Berlin-based online print shop LASERLINE is investing some EUR 7 million in state-of-the-art technology from Heidelberger Druckmaschinen AG (Heidelberg). The major order includes a Speedmaster XL 106 - the new Peak Performance Class flagship press unveiled by Heidelberg at this year's drupa in Düsseldorf. In addition to the Speedmaster XL 106 four-color press with perfecting device, LASERLINE has ordered a Speedmaster CX 102 four-color press with coating unit and a Speedmaster SX 52 Anicolor four-color press. The order for a complete solution from Heidelberg also includes several prepress and postpress machines. LASERLINE will in future be operating two Suprasetter platesetters, a Stitchmaster 450 saddlestitcher, a Polar 115 cutter, and two Stahlfolder combination folding machines.

One of the largest print shops in the Berlin/Brandenburg region, LASERLINE uses only Heidelberg machines for its sheetfed offset printing operations. The company always makes sure it benefits from the most innovative technology - one of the reasons why Managing Director Tomislav Bucec decided on the new Speedmaster XL 106.

Peak Performance Class Speedmaster XL 106 press is industry's technology leader
The Speedmaster XL 106 is the next logical step on from the Speedmaster XL 105 and represents a new performance class for industrial commercial, label, and packaging printing. Operating at 18,000 sheets per hour in both straight and perfecting modes, it achieves optimum productivity and processes a wide range of substrates up to 0.8 mm (0.031 in) thick. The larger 75 x 106 cm (29.53 x 41.73 in) sheet format enables the maximum 105 cm (41.34 in) print format to be used in its entirety.

"As a production press, the Speedmaster XL 106 is ideal for online printers like us. We expect the new press to deliver a significant boost in productivity. The machine's high energy and resource efficiency make it one of the most eco-friendly presses in its class - yet another reason why we decided on this drupa innovation," explains Bucec. LASERLINE has developed an integrated management system (IMS) in a process lasting several years and incorporating all parts of the company. Since 2006, it has been one of the few German print shops to have triple certification to EN ISO 9001:2008 (quality management), DIN EN ISO 14001:2009 (environmental management), and OHSAS 18001:2007 (occupational health and safety management).

Speedmaster SX 52 Anicolor benefits from comprehensive automation for excellent flexibility
The new Speedmaster SX models deliver outstanding print quality, high stability in production, intuitive and ergonomic operation, and a high level of automation. They offer a wide range of configurations with coating unit, perfecting device, and many additional features, including an automatic washup device, static electricity eliminator, and color measuring instruments. The high energy and resource efficiency of the Speedmaster SX 52 Anicolor was another reason why LASERLINE decided on this particular press. All SX presses support alcohol-reduced/alcohol-free printing and can be supplied on a carbon-neutral basis.

Lean production with the Speedmaster CX 102-4+L
With this ultramodern, flexible press, LASERLINE is ideally equipped to handle even the toughest customer requirements. The company relies on maximum efficiency to ensure business success despite pressure on prices. LASERLINE has a workforce of around 200 and has already successfully processed orders for more than 65,000 customers. Far shorter makeready times, a halving of the paper waste, and a stable production speed can play a vital role in ensuring its continued success. LASERLINE uses only Heidelberg presses for its offset printing operations, which made the decision to buy the Speedmaster CX 102 a relatively easy one. Whether processing shorter runs or very large volumes, offset presses print brilliant colors quickly and reliably with consistently high quality. The company has two Speedmaster four-color presses for the 70 x 100 cm (27.56 x 39.37 in) format, one with a coating unit. All offset presses are connected to the Prinect Image Control color measuring system to ensure excellent and precise ink feeding.

Innovative prepress and postpress solutions
The order is rounded off by investments in cutting-edge prepress and postpress equipment. The two newly acquired Suprasetter platesetters are responsible for maintaining LASERLINE's high imaging quality, while also delivering optimum productivity and an unprecedented depth of focus.

LASERLINE's postpress operations will in future benefit from a Stahlfolder KH 82 and a Stahlfolder TA 52 with Prinect software add-on. The folding machines' modular structure and a variety of attachments optimize flexibility and productivity. The high productivity of the Stitchmaster 450 saddlestitcher increases net output and cost-efficiency for all run lengths. And the Polar 115 high-speed cutter ensures precise cutting of all kinds of materials, including paper, card, cardboard, and plastic foils.

Bucec turned his advertising and media design company into a print shop in 1987. He started out with a five-man team but now has around 200 employees. In 2000, LASERLINE invested in two Speedmaster DI and two Quickmaster presses from Heidelberg. At the time, it was one of the largest DI users worldwide. Bucec considers it very important to ensure the company's trainees receive excellent training and is committed to environmental management. LASERLINE often receives visitors who want to see how state-of-the-art printing technology operates. They include government representatives looking to impress international guests with a model company.
